Chapter 18: Spell Creation
When I entered the room, Bellatrix and Dolohov were standing there, awaiting me. I gulped nervously as I walked over to them. The room was large, around seven-ten metres long and six metres wide. It was completely bare, and looked to have been stripped of any furniture.
"I've already cast a protective charm on the room," said Bellatrix carelessly, "Wouldn't want to accidentally destroy the manor in the training."
"What do you want to start with first? Attack or defense?" Dolohov asked. I decided I didn't trust him one bit, and thought carefully.
"Defense," I replied, and they both quirked an eyebrow.
"Well, I suppose the sooner we get that out of the way, the sooner we get to move on to more exciting things," Bellatrix shrugged. Her idea of 'more exciting things' was Dark Arts. But I had no wish to poison my soul at such a young age.
"Stand five feet apart," Dolohov ordered, and I quickly shimmied back until I was five feet away from them, my wand clutched in my hand.
"First rule in a duel: you need to have a spell, preferably a curse, at the tip of your tongue, to use whenever you don't have time to cast something else. It needs to be effective and you need to be so familiar with it that you will naturally say it when you don't have time to react. But don't use it too often, or you will become predictable," said Dolohov. That made sense.
"Like Potter," Bellatrix sneered, "He is becoming far too predictable with his signature spell, Expelliarmus. And of all the spells he could chose from, he chooses the Disarming Spell. Pathetic." They both laughed. "You need something deadly, Roxy."
"I uh -I'll think about it," I said. They nodded grudgingly.
"We'll start with the most basic ones, which you should know," Bellatrix shuddered, "Ugh, they're so pointless, they're practically useless in a duel." We went over them, and they made me demonstrate each one. Then we moved onto slightly trickier defense spells, before finally the more advanced ones.
"I think that'll be all for today," said Dolohov. We had trained for four hours straight.
"Yes," I nodded. I was sweating, and felt mentally drained. Those two sure knew their business. Apart from the fact that they spoke of the Dark Arts with a loving caress in their voice, their training was actually quite good.
Dinner was served, and the four of us: Narcissa, Bellatrix, Draco and I, sat down to eat.
"Mark and Elaine sent over some of your things, Roxy," Narcissa told me, "I've put them in one of the guest rooms, where you'll be staying."
"Thank you," I smiled. Merlin knows she's been through so much, and I felt like she really deserved a break from all of it. Draco was pointedly ignoring me, even refusing to look in my direction.
That night, I lay in bed, my mind too filled with thoughts to calm down and fall asleep. So much had happened over a few hours. I had found out that, basically, my whole life had been a lie. I was the daughter of Lord Voldemort, and Ciara Riddle, neé Le Fay. My mother was the descendent of Morgana, and had vanished shortly after my birth. Draco had become a Death Eater. I was placed right at the top of my father's ranks. Bellatrix and Dolohov were training me. Draco had to...assassinate Dumbledore, and was resolutely shutting me out.
Overall, it was pretty overwhelming. I didn't know how I'd managed to take it all so calmly. Probably because I knew from the start that I was different, that something was off about me. I wasn't like everybody else. I think a part of me somehow knew deep inside that all along, I was born for something greater. Born to wield immense power. I wondered if Dumbledore knew who I was. Voldemort had said that nobody else knew, but Dumbledore had a way of knowing everything.
