Chapter 4: The Plan

Umbridge smiled, but it didn't quite meet her eyes.

"Yes, Miss..?" She asked sweetly.

"Sylmore, professor." Roxy could tell Umbridge recognised the name well.
"So, I wanted to ask, why did we put our wands away?"

"Well, this year you will be following a Ministry-approved curriculum for your Defense Against the Dark Art lesson. Take out your quills." Everyone hesitantly did so. Umbridge waved her wand again, and words appeared on the board.

"Copy our course aims down." There was silence apart from the scratching of quills on parchment.

"Now, open up your books, and start reading."

Roxy, as did most of the class, inwardly groaned. How boring. After several minutes, she looked up again, determined to find something more interesting to fill her time. Then she saw Hermione with her hand determinedly in the air, but Umbridge was determinedly ignoring her. But by this point most of the class was watching, so she couldn't ignore her any longer.

"You have a question, Miss..."

"Granger. It's about your course aims. There's nothing there about using defensive spells." Heads turned towards the board.

"Oh, but why would you have any need to use defensive spells? There's nobody out there who would want to hurt children like you," She said in a falsely sweet voice. Roxy mentally groaned again as she saw Harry clench his fists and speak up.

"Oh, really? How about...oh I don't know, maybe Voldemort?" He said dryly. There were shocked gasps.

"Now, you have been told that a certain Dark Wizard is at large again. This is a lie," she emphasised.

"It's not a lie! I saw him; I fought him!" yelled Harry.

"Hand up, Mr Potter," grilled Umbridge.

Harry stuck his hand in the air but continued,
"So you're saying that Cedric Diggory dropped dead of his own accord?" Of course, Roxy had been given all the details about the last two years, and she sympathized for Cedric. He had been a nice boy. Not to mention attractive.

"Cedric Diggory's death was an unfortunate accident," said Umbridge.

Roxy hissed at Harry,
"Harry, back down! This isn't going to end good." But he ignored her.

"Accident? It was no accident, he was murdered in cold blood!"

"Enough!" Screeched Umbridge, "Detention, Mr Potter. My office. Tomorrow evening. Five pm sharp." She gave a sickly smile as Harry glared at her, silently fuming. The lesson passed in silence.

After DADA, Roxy had Potions class. She and Cassidy made their way there together.

"Snape is as biased towards Slytherin as ever," smiled Cass, "so you should do fine." Roxy chuckled. They went in, and sat at a table together. More and more students piled in. They shared this class with the Ravenclaws. The dungeon door opened and Snape strode in.

"I will be assigning your partners," he drawled in his nasal voice. Roxy had forgotten how annoying it was. She looked at the board; names were appearing.
Roxy Sylmore - Draco Malfoy
Her eyes widened. No. There was no way she was going with him.

"Is there a problem, Miss Sylmore?" asked Snape lazily.

"Yes, there is, sir. You see, I simply cannot be with Dra- Malfoy. I'm sure you understand perfectly well why, given our history together. And this will probably make me more mentally unstable."
