Chapter 35: The truth

Roxy woke to an empty space beside her.

There was a clear dent in the bed where someone else had lain, but there was nobody there. Nobody's strong, warm arms around her. Nobody's cool breath mingling with her own. Nobody's silky soft hair tickling her face.

For a few minutes she lay on her side staring at the space, her mind having to process the fact that he was gone. He had vanished early in the morning without waking her. And she didn't know where or how he was.

She attempted to get out of bed, but immediately her legs threatened to give way. There was a strong ache between her legs and she could almost feel him inside her. Almost. Roxy leaned back and sighed. It was going to be difficult to move for a few days.

She cautiously leaned over, ignoring the pain in her waist from where his hands gripped her, and grabbed the silk nightrobe from where she'd hung it last night. She hissed as the silk fabric brushed over her sore breasts and tender nipples. Roxy looked in the mirror to the left of her bed, on the wall. He really had left his mark, she saw as she examined the various bruises and marks all over her skin. Roxy leaned heavily against the headboard as she supported herself to her feet, wincing. Her womanhood especially throbbed with pain, and she knew it would be for days. How she had managed to survive his relentless pounding, and her multiple orgasms, she didn't know.

Slowly, step by step, she hobbled over to the window and drew apart her curtains, revealing a grey, dreary winter's day. How lovely. Roxy sighed and sank down onto the chaise lounge, her body sore all over. She caught sight of Cybele's bracelet lying on the desk, her jewel eyes glinting. Well, she would be the only company for at least a few days. There was no way Roxy was going to visit others whilst his marks were all over her. And it wasn't as if she could anyway. She could barely get out of bed.

Roxy willed Cybele to come to life, and sure enough, the snake began to elongate and shimmer until Cybele, in full size, slithered down and across the carpet towards her.

"It's going to just be you and me for a while," Roxy said to her.

"Who needssss othersss anyway?" was Cybele's reply, her eyes staring knowingly at her.

"I'm not needy. I'm not." Roxy insisted, but she might as well be arguing with herself. Cybele merely looked at her unblinkingly.

"You shhhould eattt breakfassst, Mistressss," she reprimanded. Roxy smiled. Who knew a snake had feelings?

After a couple of hours Roxy was able to slowly limp around the castle with Cybele's help. Her snake didn't ask any questions, which Roxy was thankful for.

"The castle has a library, doesn't it?" She asked Nerida.

"Of course, Mistress!" Nerida eagerly led her to the library, "In fact, Le Fay Castle has one of the oldest and most vast libraries. There are thousands of different books and scrolls that have been gathered over centuries."

She flung open a pair of double doors with a flourish. Nerida turned to Roxy, eyes sparkling. But Roxy was staring open-mouthed at the scene before her.

Shelves upon shelves of neatly stacked books, rising up towards the ceiling that was at least fifteen metres high. Golden lights -fairies- fluttered around, cleaning and dusting books, and arranging the chairs and tables perfectly. Elegant staircases that swirled around the tall, tall bookshelves, reaching towards the crystal ceiling.
