Chapter 38: The truth

A/N: Huge tea is about to be spilled...and you'll be the getting the answers. Although it gets quite steamy towards the end ;)

Has your father not told you, Roxy Le Fay?

Of course he hadn't told her! He was deliberately very shut up about her mother, and it infuriated her to no end. Everyone seemed to know more about her own mother than she did. Yet no one seemed willing to tell her.

Just remember, Roxy Riddle, it matters not what someone is born, but what they grow to be.

That's what she had tried telling herself, but Roxy began to doubt. She had her parents' genes. Genes for power and glory and... evil? Was she evil? Had she been around dark and twisted ideas for so long she was now following in her father's footsteps? No, surely she wasn't.

Those two phrases haunted her, whirring around in her mind. Dumbledore looking at her as he died, and Harry's expression. Who was she?

She had no answer to that.

But now, with a whole summer before her and needing a distraction from the horrific events, she aimed to uncover as much about her parents as possible. Even if people were unwilling to tell her.

It was strangely funny how it was now an entire year from when she first knew whose daughter she was, and whose legacies she had to follow. And everything had changed. The one person who was closest to understanding what she was feeling was Draco, and she felt beyond lucky to have him always at her side.

"Okay, I get it. You have every right to know about your parents. But where are you going to start?" Draco asked, lounging on a chaise lounge. Roxy paced in front of him.

"Mark and Elaine. They're the most likely ones to spill. I have more chance with them." She stopped and turned to face him. "You don't have any more...tasks this summer, right?"

"Well not at the moment," he replied, "I wouldn't count on it, though."

"Brilliant. Can you come with me?"

"What, where?" He frowned.

"Well, everywhere. After all, you are like my assigned bodyguard now." She smiled, sitting down across his lap as his arm draped around her waist, holding her.

"Yes, we haven't really talked about that. It's not really a punishment in my eyes. I'll protect you anyway. Is that the only reason why you want me to come?"

"Not want you to come. I need you with me, Draco. You're the one I trust the most," she gazed imploringly into his eyes.

"I'm honoured," he murmured, bridging the gap between their lips. She wrapped her arms around his neck as they kissed. They had been doing a lot of that lately.

"I love you," he whispered against the sweet taste of her lips that made his tingle, "You know that, right?"

"Just promise me one thing. Whatever we uncover about my parents and my heritage, whatever they've done, whatever that's going to happen...promise me you won't view me any differently. Promise me you'll always look at me the way you do now."

He gave a small smile. "And how do I look at you now?"

She leaned back slightly to study his face. "Like I'm the light of dawn in your darkness within."

His grey eyes glimmered like moonlight on stars. "I promise. Nothing could ever change the way I feel about you, Rox."

As she looked deep into his eyes, she knew with every fibre of her being that his words were true.
