Chapter 9: The Yule Ball

"First of all, it could never have lasted. It just wasn't going to work. I might have moved away anyways, or stayed here, depending on how bad it was. Maybe I moved, and never came back. Either way, even if that event never happened, something was bound to. I'm sorry, but it just wouldn't have worked out."

Draco thought about her words.
"I see." Was all he said.

"Oh, and uh, you know, the photos..." Roxy trailed off.

"Hmm. Yes, that. Why exactly did you do it?"

She considered.
"I don't know. It was just an instinct and I saw it as a perfect way to get back at you and Parkinson. Maybe I should've done something else instead. But, you're not angry?"

"A bit," admitted Draco, "but not that much. As long as it doesn't do any real damage. Though the Slytherins are pretty pissed." Roxy swallowed.

"I'm sorry to say this, and I completely get if you're going to be mad...but we had them sent to your parents too." She said the last part in a whisper. Draco's eyes hardened, and she saw his jaw clench.

"You did what?"

"Yeah, maybe I should've just kept it within the school."

"Damn right you should. My parents are never going to let me live it down. I come from a high-society, upper class, aristocratic family of purebloods with incredible wealth and power, Roxy. Imagine my parents' response to seeing their only son and heir to the family fortune doing that in public." Roxy's eyebrows furrowed.

"Then why did you snog her in public?" Draco rubbed his temples.

"She quite literally leapt onto me and forced me to. I think she was trying to make you feel jealous or something."

"And you went along with it."

"No, I told you, she ma-"

"No, Draco. You two were snogging for a full three minutes. You also wanted to attempt to break me. Again." There was a silence. Roxy removed her hand from his grasp.

"Roxy, I-"

"Just drop it already. I guess some people can never change. And I really don't know what's wrong with me, thinking that you were a different person now. What's your objective, Malfoy? See how many times we can break poor Roxy?"

There was pure venom in her voice. Draco opened his mouth to reply. Just then, Jade, Cassidy and Daphne came back in. They looked from Roxy's crestfallen, hurt expression to Draco's guilty one. Jade immediately grabbed his collar and pointed her wand at him.

"What did you do?" she demanded.

"What in Salazar's-"

"I said, what did you do?" Jade hissed.

"Remove him from my sight," ordered Roxy in a calm voice. Without a second's hesitation, the three of them had practically thrown Draco out, casting him dark glares.

"Roxy, tell us what happened," Cassidy said quietly. So she did.

"Ugh, I'm going to kill him," grumbled Jade.

"Maybe this will cheer you up. We saw Parkinson at dinner. She seemed pretty downcast. I think Snape gave her a real good telling off. Anyways, we threatened her, and I punched her in the face." Daphne seemed quite proud of this fact.

"It was totally worth it. She grabbed her face and whined, but she was too dejected to do anything more!" Cassidy exclaimed. They all laughed.

"Now, we'll just see exactly how our photos work out," grinned Roxy.
