Chapter 29: Dawn love
An insistent tapping at her window pane awoke Roxy. She rubbed her eyes, wondering what the noise was. She peered out of the window, nearly jumping back in surprise when she an owl perched on the windowsill outside. It was jet-black, blending in perfectly with the dark night outside, with beady yellow eyes that seemed to glare their way through her. They seemed to remind her of another pair of eyes she'd seen on another creature. Who was it? She frowned, staring at the owl as it clicked into place.
Of course! Nagini.
Automatically, Roxy looked down at her wrist, where the jewellery form of Cybele was wrapped. So far, she had managed to pass Cybele as just another bracelet her 'parents' had bought her for her birthday. Luckily, her friends believed her, since it was common for Roxy to have new, expensive jewellery from her rich 'parents'. She gulped, noticing the parchment tied to the owl's leg. Could this possibly be a letter from her father? Roxy opened the window, and the owl fluttered onto her forearm, its claws digging into her flesh. She winced, making sure that the other three were still fast asleep. Then Roxy untied the letter from the owl's leg. It waited on her bedside cabinet, patiently staring at her with its unblinking yellow eyes. She shuddered. Roxy unrolled the piece of parchment, reading the spidery writing written in red on it. The crimson ink looked suspiciously and horribly like blood. Typical.
My dearest daughter, (Roxy had to scoff at that)
I do hope that everything is going according to plan. You haven't written to me at all yet, so that is what I am assuming. I hope that Draco Malfoy is following his set duties accordingly, and that you have not faced any trouble. If there happens to be any, simply write to me and it will be dealt with at once. Now, I assume that the cabinet has not been fixed yet, since you've given no word on that. Hurry young Mr Malfoy if needed. We do not have all year to wait for him to carry out the deed. However, I have provided another means of accomplishing his task. You will find a necklace attached with this letter. DO NOT touch the necklace, ONLY the packaging. The necklace is cursed, and whoever touches it will have high chances of dying. Give this to Mr Malfoy, and let him find a way to send it to Dumbledore. Be sure to warn him that I am being most generous. In normal circumstances, it would have been solely up to the Death Eater to finish their set task, with absolutely no help. He is lucky I have taken pity on him. But there will be no second chances. I will see you for Christmas, my daughter.
-L.V (The D.L)
Roxy immediately crumpled up the letter, setting it alight with her wand and watching it burn. Then she scattered the ashes outside her window in satisfaction. As if her father cared about Draco at all. He always portrayed himself as generous, but he never took pity on anyone. Just more mind games. Sighing, Roxy took the package from the owl's leg, and cautiously unwrapped it. There, gleaming amongst the brown wrapping, was a silver and opal necklace, glinting dangerously up at her. It would've been pretty if not for the Dark Magic practically engulfing it, and dimming its beauty. She tied it back up again, careful not to touch the necklace, and hid it under her bed. The owl took off into the night sky, back to its master, and she shut the window, crawling back into her bed. She hoped she would fall asleep before the stress caught up with her, and broke her down. Roxy was strong. She would not let anyone break her. Not even this.
The next morning, she made sure the package was still under her bed before following the other three to breakfast. Draco caught her eye, noticing that she seemed exceptionally depressed this morning. Roxy saw Cassidy watching her, and rearranged her features to smile, and force laughs. Normal Slytherin sixth year. Normal life.
