Chapter 27: I guess I'm stuck with you

Soon, all the sixth years had arrived.

"Hello, sixth years," said Slughorn cheerfully, "Let's all settle down. Get out your copies of Advanced Potion-Making, and we'll begin." Just then, the door opened, and two figures walked in. Slughorn turned around.

"Ah! Harry, m'boy! I was beginning to worry. And we've brought someone with us, I see."

"Ron Weasley, sir. But I'm dead awful at Potions, a menace actually, so I probably should just be going-"

"He's not wrong," sniggered Theo.

"Nonsense, we'll sort you out. Any friend of Harry's is a friend of mine. Right then, books out-"

"Um, sorry sir," put in Potter, "but I haven't got my book yet -nor's Ron."

"Not to worry. You can get what you need from the cupboard." Slughorn turned around to speak to the class whilst Potter and Weasley scuffled by the cupboard. Amateurs.

"I've prepared a few concoctions this morning. Any ideas what these might be? Yes, Miss..."

"Granger, sir. That one there is Veritaserum. And that would be Polyjuice Potion. And that is Amortentia! The most powerful love potion in the world. It's rumoured to smell differently to each person..." Roxy turned to shush Draco and Theo, were who talking to another, ignoring the lesson.

"Now Amortentia doesn't create actual love, of course. That would be impossible. But it does cause a powerful infatuation or obsession. It is probably the most dangerous and powerful potion in this room -oh yes," Slughorn nodded, seeing Draco and Theo snigger at his words, "When you have seen as much of life as I have, you will not underestimate the power of obsessive love. Now, since you two boys seem so inclined to talk, please do tell us what you happen to smell." Draco and Theo blinked in surprise.

"Well," began Theo rather pompously, sniffing the potion, "I smell parchment, ink, honey, and um...a flower..." He trailed off, shuffling.

"I wonder which flower," giggled Cassidy.

"Bets on it starting with a D?" smirked Roxy, knowing that their conceited friend used her own flower of perfume.

"And you, Mr Malfoy?" Slughorn asked. Draco rolled his eyes, then sniffed the potion. Pansy watched him eagerly.

"I smell cinnamon...apples, um, I think there's something oriental? And...fresh air...like dawn.." Draco trailed off. Cassidy nudged Roxy excitedly.

"Did you hear that? And do you happen to know what your name means?" she smirked.

"Of course I do," grumbled Roxy, staring at Draco. It could just be a coincidence, of course...'Roxy' meant 'dawn', but anyone could like the dawn, right? Theo and Draco came back to the table, both of their cheeks tinged with pink. Cassidy laughed.

"Daphne flowers, eh?" Cassidy teased Theo.

"I never said that," grumbled Theo.

"And you, Draco? The dawn?" Cassidy nudged Draco, "Now, whose name do I know that means 'dawn'? Let's see..."

"Oh shut up," snapped Draco, but Cassidy just laughed.

"Sir, you haven't told us what's in that one." Katie Bell pointed to a small black cauldron, in which a golden liquid was swirling about.

"Ah yes. What you see before you, ladies and gentlemen, is a curious little potion known as Felix Felicis. But it is more commonly referred to as-"

"Liquid luck," Hermione Granger blurted out. A buzz ran through the class, and Roxy perked up.
