Chapter 19: Monster

"What are you thinking, Roxy?" Draco hissed at me later on as I was busy looking up Latin words, "Some of those curses would be considered Dark Arts!"

"For the final time, Draco, I didn't mean to create them. They just came. All I can do is find countercurses to them." Draco glared at me.

"I know you're into spell creation, but honestly? I didn't know they'd poisoned you this far!"

"Look who's speaking," I raised my eyebrows, sick of his attitude, "The youngest Death Eater in history, who's supposed to murder the greatest wizard in history. And you talk about me." Draco stiffened as he clenched his jaw. I knew I had touched a nerve, but I didn't really care. I was annoyed with him.

"Shut up. I don't have a choice. You know that. So don't give me that bullshit," he growled.

"Well then, do you think I have a choice? I'm bound to the dark side! By blood! So you can shut your mouth right now about how you have no choice, how you don't really want to do it, how you're just saving your parents and yourself, blah blah blah." I rolled my eyes.

"Oh no you didn't!" Draco snarled, so enraged that he drew out his wand. Instinctively, I drew out my own as he shot a curse at me. I dodged it, aware that I'd went too far.

"Draco, calm down!" I shouted, but he didn't appear to listen.

"How fucking dare you!" he shouted, hurling another curse at me. Luckily, we were out in the gardens, so his curses were less likely to destroy something. I hurtled into the maze as Draco tore after me, flinging curses at me that I dodged.

"Draco, I don't think your mother would appreciate you destroying the estate," I yelled.

"Don't you fucking dare bring my parents into this!" he screeched.

"You're crazy!" I shouted back, turning left.

At last, I burst out of the maze again. Draco heard me leave the maze and, since he had explored it his whole life, knew exactly how to get out. I risked a glance back. He was indeed mad. I needed to get him to calm down. I whipped back around, but was too late as a curse streaked past my arm. It missed by a millimetre, but nevertheless left a long cut on my bare arm. I gasped and clutched my arm in pain as I dropped to my knees. It was already bleeding. Draco stopped before me and froze upon seeing the bleeding wound on my arm. He dropped down to his own knees.

"Oh, Salazar...Roxy, I'm so sorry...I don't know what..." He looked at the wound in horror. I gritted my teeth, fighting against the pain. The impact of the flying spell was still searing into my arm.

"Roxy, I'm so-"

"Shut up," I hissed, feeling the fury bubble up inside me. My head snapped up, and my eyes met his. His worried and guilty grey eyes widened before he collapsed, writhing on the ground. I just stared at him as he convulsed, choking on air. Blinking in surprise, I watched soundlessly as he shook and gasped, his face crumpled in agony. Only when a scream tore itself from his lips did I realise the full realisation of what was going on, and stumbled back, startled. My eyes tore away from him, and he instantly stopped, instead heaving for gasps of air. His head lolled back onto the grass, his eyes closed. There was the sound of running footsteps, and I looked up to see Narcissa hurry towards us, closely followed by Bellatrix. Narcissa knelt down beside her son.

"Draco, Draco..." She looked frightened, "Draco, are you alright?" Bellatrix inspected my cut.

"Cissy, Draco shot a curse at Roxy. It just barely missed, but look!" She showed Narcissa the bleeding wound.
