Chapter 21: Immune

But it never came.

I just stood there blankly, my muscles unclenching when nothing happened. Not even a brief flicker of pain. Just...nothing. Voldemort looked just as confused as I was.

"Crucio!"

"Crucio!"

Though he made several attempts, they all wielded the same results. Nothing. Everyone in the room was confused.

"Why isn't it working?" Bellatrix asked, her eyebrows furrowed. Clearly, this had never happened before. Voldemort studied me intently as he lowered his wand. Then he laughed.

"Well, it seems like you are immune, Roxy." I frowned in shock.

"But, I -how is that even possible?"

"It's not," said Voldemort, pacing calmly, "Well, apart for you. I'm guessing it's another one of your gifts. Interesting and useful, isn't it? Immune to the Cruciatus." I blinked, comprehending it all. That meant that I couldn't be hurt. Nobody could cruciate me. I was immune.

"I wonder...Imperio!" Nothing.

"Well I never!" said Voldemort, looking at me, "It seems like you are immune to the Unforgivable Curses. Naturally, the best way to try this is to test the Killing Curse...but just in case you aren't, we won't do that. After all, if you do die, it wouldn't benefit anyone well." I breathed a sigh of relief.

"Although, you did still defy me, so I'll just have to think of another way." I froze again. There was a sadistic glint in his malicious eyes.

"How about dear Draco here?" Both Draco and Narcissa's eyes widened in fear.

"No," I breathed as Voldemort raised his wand. I felt a familiar surge of fury blossom inside me, but it was a hundred times more powerful, and perhaps even more. I met Voldemort's eyes, clenching my fists. He stared at me in surprise. The two of us mentally battled against each other. I took a step forwards, and finally broke through his walls. I shook from the effort, but nevertheless poured my entire being into it, focusing solely on him and zoning everything out. Voldemort sank to his knees, shaking. His red eyes became unfocused, his awful nails digging into the floor of the manor. I felt elated. I felt powerful. And in that moment, I was certain that I was far more powerful than the Dark Lord ever would be. I could accomplish things he couldn't. Fuck that. I could kill him if I wanted to. I doubted I'd be able to do it this time. He was far too strong, and already I could feel myself slipping. In my peripheral vision, I saw Bellatrix come at me, evidently trying to help her master. I kept my gaze on Voldemort, but shifted it ever so slightly so that I was training it on Bellatrix too. She fought against my power, but, compared to the Voldemort, it was almost easy bringing her to her knees. Bellatrix spluttered, her face twisting. I straightened, feeling the power filling every fibre of my being.

I could do this.

I was powerful.

I was the mix of Salazar Slytherin and Morgan le Fay.

There was nobody more powerful than me.

A laugh escaped my lips. The very air around me crackled with magic. My eyes were blood-red. I knew I probably had a manic look on my face. Then, Voldemort shattered my hold. I staggered back as he got to his feet. Beside him, Bellatrix was scrambling unsteadily to hers. My grip around my wand was so tight that my knuckles were white. Voldemort heaved for breath, looking at me for a long time. I met his gaze defiantly. I knew what I was capable of. He couldn't scare me.

"Well," he said at last, "I have to hand it to you; I didn't think you'd be this strong. I suppose I underestimated you. It seems like you've fully mastered control of your gift. Bellatrix and Dolohov will begin your Legilimency and Occlumency training." He gave me one final glance, then Disapparated away. I stood there for a few moments, regaining my composure. The redness slipped away from my eyes until they had resumed their natural sapphire blue. I felt physically and mentally drained, exhausted from the effort. I knew that I was going to collapse any second. So I turned and swiftly left the room. Bellatrix, Narcissa and Draco were still standing where they were, shock-still.
