Walking through the cave, I approached nothing but darkness. Darkness came to me and I went to darkness. Nothing was there except for a speck of light at the end of the cave. But I didn't know what was on the road to the light. Roar! A creature growled at me. Terrified, I sat up in my bed awoken from my nightmare. Next to me, my phone flashed with a notification. Reaching for my phone, I checked to see who it was.

My Messages:

[Arianna] Sorry it's so late, but does anyone want to have a sleepover on Friday?

[Josie] This Friday?

[Arianna] Then is it last Friday, you idiot?

[Josie] Geez. I'll be there.

[Megan] I'll have to ask my mom, but I think she'll say yes. Are you not sleeping?

[Josie] I was until I got a notification. I seriously need to hide alerts in this chat.

[Arianna] Come on. It's only 2 am. I sleep at 3 am.

[Megan] So that's why you have dark circles.

[Arianna] I do not! Fine, what time do you sleep?

[Josie] 11 pm.

[Megan] Same, Josie.

[Arianna] Whatever. You only live once.

[Josie] Alright. We have school tomorrow, so we can talk then, Ari. Good night.

[Megan] Good night!

[Arianna] Fine, suckers.

Placing my phone back on my nightstand, I laid back down and smiled. It had been ages since I last got up in the middle of the night to text my friends. Wishing that it was already tomorrow, I fell back asleep.

Whoosh! I woke up to see my window open and wind flowing in. Jumping up from my bed, I went out of my room and called down to my mother, "Who left the window open in my room?"

"I did, sweetheart. You were kicking your blankets, so I assumed you were hot." My mother walked past me, holding a basket full of laundry. "Aren't you going to get ready for school?" Shoot. Glancing at the clock, it read 8:00. I still had an hour, what was the rush?

Shrugging, I left to my room to pick an outfit for the day. While fixing my hair, I saw a note with my handwriting on my mirror. Squinting, it said, December 14th, Picture day! Springing up, I thought, I totally forgot about picture day! Grabbing a clean dress, I cleaned off the lint and then wore it.

"Not bad, Megan, not bad." I spoke to myself as I overlooked myself in the mirror.

"Megan! We need to go now!" I heard my mom shout from the first floor, so I ran downstairs to find her and Janice waiting. Janice was glaring at me with her trademark scowl.

"Why were you so late? I remember you being awake at eight o'clock." My mother grumbled as we filed into the car.

"Sorry, I lost track of the time." Janice sighed loudly from the side, which I ignored. If she wanted to be a jerk, then she could be.
