Ding! My phone rang with a notification. Opening my phone, I opened my messages to see that Emily sent me a message.
My Messages:
[Emily] Is this you?
[Emily] Attachment: 1 image
Clicking the image, it turned out to be a video. Zooming in, someone had taken a video of Ella dumping water on me. It was taken from a side view, and it was posted on instagram by a person named.... @anyonomousgirlee. Closing my eyes, I tried to imagine who this person was.
*Flashback*
After the water dumping, Ella and I had thrown insults around at each other and then ended the conversation. I looked to the side and saw someone holding up a phone. When she lowered her phone, I got a glimpse of her face but it was no one I knew.
*End of Flashback*
"Who was that?" I said to myself as I pulled into my messages again. Emily was still texting me, worried about me.
My Messages:
[Emily] Megan? Are you there?
[Megan] I'm here. And yeah, that was me.
[Emily] Oh god! Are people still bullying you?
[Megan] Some are. But it's not as bad as it used to be.
[Emily] Who was that girl who dumped water on you? I will kill her!
[Megan] Her name is Ella. She's new to our school.
[Emily] A new girl? Man, she's tough.
[Megan] I have to go track down this instagram user. Bye!
[Emily] Bye! And good luck!
Leaving my phone on my desk, I got up to get a snack. While peeling open a tangerine, Janice ran into the kitchen and shoved her phone in my face.
"Megan! Is this you?" Thinking that it was the water video, I pushed her phone away without looking at the screen.
"Yeah, I can't believe she dumped water on me." I stated and ate the tangerine. After a few seconds of hearing no response, I looked up to see a confused Janice. "What?" Janice showed me the phone again. It was a video of Katie, Theresa, and I fighting. I gasped loudly.
"What happened here?" Janice asked me harshly with a cold tone.
"That's the day they made fun of William and called me the psycho's sister over and over..." I said softly. Janice's eyes softened and hugged me.
"I'm sorry for speaking to you like that, Meg." She said while patting my back. I nodded slowly and looked back at her phone. Who would post such a thing? I thought. That was downright rude. I never knew anybody at our school that would do that. "Who would take a video like this?" My sister asked loudly, cutting me from my thoughts.
"I really don't know, Janice." I clenched my fists. "But I'm going to find out."

The next day at school, I walked up to my locker only to find many people around it. As I walked closer, I heard oohs and aahs and wondered what was so interesting. When my locker was in view, I saw a note plastered on my locker. Pushing others aside, I ripped the note off to read it.
Hi Megan,
You may not know me but I'm from Celestial Entertainment, from Seoul, South Korea. I came to your town to look for possible candidates for our upcoming survival show. I saw you on the street a couple days ago but I didn't acknowledge you because you seemed to be having fun with friends. I saw you the next day as well, walking to school, so I asked the principal to show me a picture of you, and you have outstanding visuals. I know this may be overwhelming, but I hope you can ponder about this. Please go to the Celestial Entertainment website if you have questions.
Sincerely,
Kim Seohyun, Celestial Vice-President
Was this a joke? I thought to myself before I shoved the note in my backpack. Immediately, I pushed through the crowd and reached the principal's office in milliseconds. Knocking on the door, I waited until I got a response and then pushed the door open.
Mr. Ip looked up and smiled.
"What can I do for you, Megan?" He asked and folded his hands.
"Did someone come and ask for a picture of me?" I blurted out.
"Aah. This is what you have come to speak of. Yes, a woman came searching for you. Why?"
"You can't do that without student permissions, Mr. Ip." I protested but he raised an eyebrow.
"I called your mother before I gave anything to her, and she approved." I felt like someone stuck a knife in my chest. Why would my mother do that without reaching out to me? It didn't feel real.
"Oh. Who was this woman?" I took out the note and showed it to him, but he seemed aware of it already.
"A woman named Seohyun Kim, I think. She seemed to convince me that you were star material." Star material? Me? I threw up inside. That was nothing to my interest. He sighed and got up. "You know, Megan, it wouldn't be bad to take up an offer like this. You are a star in school and out." He replied to questions that hadn't been asked by me. I looked to the side.
"I think about it," I said blankly and then left the room. A crowd was waiting for me outside, and I looked down while walking to my class.
But I didn't have anything to think about. I could never take the spotlight while my brother was suffering in a place I didn't even know about.

"And then she said, that's why it's a joke-" The TV cut off as I clicked the mute button. Startled, my mother turned back and saw me.
"Sweetheart, you're home? Are you hungry-" Her words cut off as I showed her the note. She lightly licked her lips and sighed. "Oh, you found out." She reached for the remote control, but I threw it behind me, and I heard plastic break. My mother looked at me, shocked. I had never shown behavior like this before.
"How could you go behind my back and spread my information?" I yelled at my mother, furious with her.
"It was just a picture-" She tried to defend herself but I didn't listen to her.
"Don't you know how much you can get out of a picture? So many people were staring at me at school! I hate that attention!" I threw my hands up as I handed the note to her and stomped upstairs.
"Megan, we need to talk." My mother said and grabbed my arm before I could walk any further.
"Let go-" I said as I tried to pry her off of me. I was met by her glare, which stopped me from talking. She brought me into her study and sat me on the couch. She then sat on the chair in front of me.
"Megan, I did that for your own sake. You are at home everyday, dwelling on what happened three years ago! You need to get our more, and I think this opportunity could really make a change." My mother said, desperate for a word to click my attention. "Besides, your brother would be proud to see you, happy, on a stage." I stared at her. Would he really?
"No, you don't understand, mom. I don't like the attention. At all." I stressed the last sentence, but my mother didn't seem to notice. She just rambled on with the conversation, although I was barely listening to her.
A little later, my mom seemed to notice this detail and let me go. Once at my room, I plopped down on my bed and thought about the offer.
Your brother would be proud of you, my mother had said. But was that true was it just a guess to motivate me?
