chapter sixteen.。☆✼★━━━━━━━━━━━━★✼☆。
FOUNDER'S DAY HAD FINALLY COME, and the entire town of Mystic Falls was expected to gather in the town square that evening to celebrate. Each year, the Miss Mystic Falls candidates typically dressed up as the founder's, wearing frilly, long dresses and formal suits.
Harper actually liked the whole "nineteenth-century" look, and she almost wished she had been a candidate just so she could dress like them. But, instead, she sported a puffy jacket with her usual skinny jeans, knowing it was going to get cold outside by the end of the day.
Sure enough, when the sun went down that evening, Harper found herself slightly shivering in the cold air, grateful she had decided to wear a jacket.
"I had to tell him, Bonnie. Isobel didn't compel him, much to my surprise, and he just... found out. It wasn't my choice, but, maybe it's for the best." Harper explained, standing amidst the crowd of people beside Bonnie, who shook her head. She had told Bonnie about Noah finding out about everything, which Bonnie was, of course, against.
"How could that be for the best?" Bonnie asked, glancing at Harper, who sighed out slightly.
"Well, I feel like it puts him in more danger if he doesn't know. This way, he at least knows why I'm making him wear that wristband. Before, he was calling it stupid, since he didn't know that there was vervain in it." Harper explained, shoving her hands in the pockets of her jacket.
"I guess that makes sense. It just sucks that this is even a 'thing' at all, you know?" Bonnie replied, looking at Harper, who nodded in agreement.
"I know." Harper replied with a small sigh, knowing that Bonnie was firmly against vampires, being a witch herself. Harper didn't blame her, considering what had happened to Grams.
A few moments later, the mayor got up in front of the people, waving to them all as he got behind the microphone.
"For 150 years, Mystic Falls has been the kind of town that everybody wants to call home. Safe, prosperous, welcoming." The mayor began his speech, causing Harper to snort quietly.
"That is just so not true." Harper muttered, earning a quiet laugh from Bonnie, who agreed with her.
"And we have the founder's to thank for that. That's why I'd like to dedicate this evening's fireworks display to their legacy." The mayor announced, clapping along with the crowd afterwards, a few cheers erupting amongst the people.
"You two need to get out of here right now." Damon approached them suddenly, a firm tone in his voice.
"What? Why?" Harper asked immediately, meeting Damon's gaze, which seemed to be growing more concerned by the minute.
