FOREST HILLS, QUEENS
A few minutes have passed since the Possible Team and Captain Stacy had arrived at the home the Seniors were living. The father and son sat on their living room couch, looking up at a frustrated Kim pacing back and forth. "Where is the secret compound formula?!" she scolded them, demanding they answer.
"What? I don't understand" Junior whined, "I thought we had settled this discussion. We don't have it. We never wanted it."
"Yeah. Until you decided to break into Kingsley's laboratory today." Kim was getting impatient, but Stacy on the other hand was getting tired. "Ms. Possible, I would suggest you change your tactics."
"And why is that?" Kim sassed back. The police captain calmly answered her, making the bigger picture clearer for her. "Every second you interrogate these two, the harder it will be to prevent the compound to be put to whatever the intended use was."
"But they're the ones who did it. We have video and photo evidence!"
"Still not the ones who did it!" Junior burst out again.
"I understand your point of action, Ms. Possible. But there are ways to fool the eye. For all we know, maybe they did do it, or they are likely the victim of misdirection."
"Yeah, Kim" Ron cut in. "Remember Camille Leon? Shape-shifter, trend-setter, pet cat, crazy beyond all reason." Stacy chuckled at his comments, while Junior found delight in hearing her name pop up. "Oooh! I love Camille. She was always so stylish. I had her pinned up on my wall."
"As amusing as that sounds," the police captain added and turned back to Ron, the name sounds strikingly obvious." Ron pondered the thought for a split second before he asked "Really? How?"
"Her name is Camille Leon, Ron" Kim groaned. "If you say it fast enough, it almost sounds like "chameleon," a type of lizard that can change color to blend in with its environment." Ron light-bulb finally went on, and he felt silly about not realizing it.
"While you guys have Camille," Stacy said, "we have a similar criminal that goes by the name "Chameleon." He does shape-shift, nor does he set trends and styles; he knows the art of disguising himself. He'll make masks and learn language and speech tendencies in order to fool you."
"So, you're saying that we might be dealing with a deception artist?" Kim asked, and Stacy nodded. "But I wouldn't take these two out of the puzzle entirely," he said, referring to the father and son. "Gentleman, for safety reasons, we're gonna have to ask you to come downtown. We're not arresting you, just containing you until we have all the facts. But as of this moment, you're our number one lead and potential suspects."
"I understand, officer" Senior said. "We gladly do whatever it takes to prove our innocence." The two rose from the couch and followed Stacy out to his police cruiser. Kim and Ron stayed back, thinking about what their next move should be.
"Well... there goes that potential shot" Kim said. Ron had a much brighter outlook on things. "Hey, the shot is still there. Doesn't matter whether they did it or not; they're in police custody anyway."
"So what do we do then?"
"I was going to ask you that," he replied, but all she did was shrug her shoulders. The truth was, Kim didn't know where to begin. Perhaps a background history of deception artists that they knew about, or have been in the New York area, but that was it. They both stared awkwardly away from each other.
