MIDTOWN HIGH SCHOOL-NEW YORK CITY

The courtyard of Midtown Tech High School was quiet in the early afternoon hours, and there was hardly a thing in sight. Amongst all the hustle and bustle of the New York City lifestyle, this could be considered a place of serenity. Although, New York isn't always the craziest place in the world to live. Sure the crime rates have been on the rise in the past year, but the rate of captures was also improving, thanks to a certain web-slinger. Nonetheless, the city was at ease for the day and the school courtyard felt the most peaceful of all, for a short time anyway.

A bell rang from the school building, heralding the end of the day. Before it could finish ringing, the front doors burst open with a solitary person running out in celebratory fashion. Sporting a letterman's jacket and his usual wavy blonde hair, Flash Thompson stood at the top of the school steps with his fists in the air and exclaiming excitedly, "SUMMERTIME!!"

It didn't take long before the rest of the student body followed behind the school jock, practically running out of the building to start their summer vacation. For most of the students, finals had been a difficult endeavor, given all the extracurricular activities that the students participated in this spring. This was mostly felt by the junior class, which seemed to go through one of the strangest swings in social structure in the past year. Jocks like Flash were dating sophomore nerds like Sha Shan, guys at the bottom of the pecking order were earning spots on the football team and dating popular girls, and somehow the class came to be closer with each other than ever before. No one knew exactly why or how it happened, but it did, and they didn't seem to mind at all. Sure, some of the initial impressions were in play amongst some of the students, but they did have new understandings of each other as well.

After a about a minute or two, a group of four friends walked out of the building, all smiling at the cheerful sight in front of them as they stepped into the sunlight.

"Wow," Harry Osborn observed, "I can't believe it. Junior year is over." His friends Peter Parker, Mary Jane Watson, and his reluctant girlfriend Gwen Stacy all smiled at him, agreeing that the year had gone by so quickly.

"I know right," Gwen replied, "I thought finals were never going to end."

"We should all celebrate" Harry then suggested, "you know, start summer vacation with a bang." Harry had been through some difficult months recently. He had learned that he was framed as the super-criminal turned crime-lord, the Green Goblin, as well as finding out his true identity was his father Norman. On top of that, he witnessed his father's death as the Goblin in a battle with Spider-Man. In the time since his death, Harry has concluded that his father was not to blame for his death, but someone that couldn't control themselves under the influence of Globulin Green, as Harry himself had once had been. As for Spider-Man, he thought the hero should have helped his father in some capacity, not try to fight him out of his insanity. His thoughts fueled his behavior and thoughts since the event happened. Jumping into action for activities that distracted his thought-process was not uncommon of late.

"You know," Mary Jane cut-in, "Flash is throwing a little get-together at Coney Island Beach tomorrow. Kind of like an end-of-school party." Most of the group perked up at the sound of attending beach party. Most of the group had never attended one, so it was sort of shocking to be given some form of invitation.

"You think Flash will let us tag along?" Peter asked, MJ smiling in response. "He never said there was an uninvited list."

"Awesome" Harry cheered, as he wrapped his arms around the shoulders of Peter and Gwen "We'll have such a great time together." His two friends smiled as they could see that Harry was finding something to smile about. For a moment, their eyes met, and they couldn't help but think of a time where they could be with each other, and not trying to trudge through the difficult circumstance they were currently living through.
