KIM & RON'S HOTEL ROOM
It had been just short of a half-hour and Kim was rummaging through her supplies and gear. Grabbing everything from her grappling hook hair-dryer, to her lipstick laser. In her mind, anything could be necessary when she took on what she considered her top priority of the moment: finding Spider-Man.
After the revelation she had watched on the news, in which Spider-Man was seemingly seen fleeing the dead body of the man she had been searching for in an alley, she made it a top priority that got to the bottom of what happened and that some form of justice was brought forward.
Ron over-saw her restless behavior and was becoming a tad worried, and it wasnt just for Kim. Ever since he began this trip, all he could think about was Spider-Man. From his flashy costume, to his spectacular abilities, he just dug the idea of a new superhero to meet. And after a few encounters, he has become convinced that he was one of the good ones; probably the best. But this revelation felt like a dagger to the chest and smelled of Middleton High cafeteria's infamous Mystery Meat at the same time. Still, there was Kim to worry about. He knew that she tolerated his newest idol, but everything had changed. Now, he couldn't tell what she was planning, what her goal was.
"Ron, could you pass the knock-out gas container?"
"What for?" asked Ron. "I see no use for it other than to put an end to this continuous broadcast."
"Priorities, Ron!" she groaned. "It doesn't matter if what they say upsets you. The only thing that matters is that the man we were searching for is now dead. And we have to bring the one responsible to justice."
"But it can't be true. IT JUST CAN'T!"
"Why? Because he goes swinging around wearing a cool costume?"
"No, but the costume helps," Ron said in a hushed voice. Kim tutted, causing Ron to argue his case. "But seriously, look at the footage."
"The footage that clearly shows fleeing a scene where there is a dead body. Not seeing the point here, Ron."
"The point is in what you just said" Ron exclaimed. "He fled the scene. The footage doesn't even prove whether he did it or not."
"Okay, i'll give you one there," said Kim, "but does it seem like a coincidence that Spider-Man has come heroically at every disaster that has some connection to Kingsley? The beach? The lab? And now his death?"
"What about the sand-guy? Senior and Junior?" Ron was quick to bring up the other suspects. "Are you just going to forget about them?"
"No, Ron! I haven't" said Kim starkly. "But Spider-Man has been the common denominator in everything so far, and I'm willing to bet that he has a larger role in all this."
"So, what!" Ron yelped, "you're just gonna go after him?"
"If that's what it takes!" Ron felt like a hole had been punched in his heart. To him, Kim wasn't thinking rationally and had become cold-hearted. Choosing rage and frustration over her usual poised and logical approach to their missions. "Then, I won't be a part of this mission."
Kim groaned, "don't be silly" still packing her things and lifting her bag onto her back. She was preparing to leave the hotel room. "Let's go!" She reached the door, but halted at not hearing footsteps trailing up behind her. She turned back in to find Ron still in the mood to join the mission.
"Hello? Earth to Ron!" she said in a semi-playful way, hoping to lighten the mood to persuade him to join her. But Ron didn't flinch. He just sat pouting on the bed, his head hanging over his shoulders. She could tell that he was upset. Probably more about the revelation than their disagreement. She moved forward and kneeled down to level with him.
