CITY

"SHOOT! HE'S GONE!" New York's newest most warned cursed as he fell and rose through the chasms one a single strand of webbing. He had searched the surrounding city blocks and alleys for nearly twenty minutes, but there was no sign of his bubble-headed foe.

It seemed like the city was calmer than it had been for the past hour. No fire-birds, no smelly gas limiting his mobility, no law-enforcement pursuing him for a crime he didn't commit, and no teen-hero cheerleaders hot on his trail. Spider-Man lands on a ledge of a high building, still grumbling.

If only Possible hadn't gotten in the way. What's her deal, anyway? It's like she's got a vendetta against me now. But I didn't do anything to her!

He thinks he's in the right, until he remembers why he's in need of a rest.

Okay, maybe I'm falsely accused for murder, but there's no need to take it so personally. He feels for the cut in his shoulder from her grappling hook. Thank goodness for his healing factor, because the pain would be much worse.

Argh! Geez, don't think anything's hurt this much since my last encounter with the Six. Hopefully I can avoid the Baby-Sitter long enough to bust Mysterio. No way I'm going to be able to find him tonight though. It's getting late, and Aunt May will start to get worried, and not sure I can sell a late night photoshoot for the Bugle in this condition.

"UH OH!" gasps the webhead. A dreadful thought came to him, something that could help him tremendously. But now, it could potentially be used against him.

Suddenly, a loud whirring sound came from behind him. Peter turned to find a Police helicopter rising above the other side of the building he was perched on. A bright searchlight blasted through the dark, searching for its target. Onboard were two pilots, one of which spotted and pointed toward him. "There" he said to his partner.

"Double uh oh!" The large beam of light rotated toward him, but Spider-Man had already leapt from the ledge. He dove to the streets, a sixty-foot drop. The police chopper comes overhead and hits the red and blue figure with its spotlight. The pedestrians on the ground look up, awed by the scene.

"It's Spider-Man! The cops got him on the run!" one by-stander says.

"SPIDER-MAN!" the officer that spotted him in the chopper called through the loud speaker, "STAND DOWN NOW! RETREATING ANY FURTHER WILL BE CHARGED AGAINST YOU! YOU ARE SURROUNDED! WE HAVE FORCES IN THE AIR AND ON THE GROUND! THERE IS NO ESCAPE!"

Sure enough, police cars started swarming in from every street in sight. From above, they looked like ants racing to defend their home. Every car's siren was blaring to its fullest. The combination created a chaotic orchestra of noise that disrupted the night.

"You people have no regard for sleep deprivation. I mean, besides having a chopper cause a ruckus, wouldn't you only need one siren. I mean, if you're not going to do it for other people's benefit, do it for mine. I'm in real need of some shut eye, plus I got a super villain to catch."

The web-slinger swung through the streets, faster than he ever had before. He turned left, more cops. Right, more cops. Higher, the chopper continued to follow and cut him off. He really was surrounded.

"Didn't think I needed this many people to tuck me in tonight."

PEW! Without warning, yellow beams came from the squad cars. Spider-Man is nearly hit by the first shot. Readjusting, he notices that the cops are armed with non-lethal weapons. The beam that was shot came from a shock blaster.

"Ugh, they must be taking cues from Shocker.."

PEW! PEW! A few more shots were fired, but the now wiser spider counteracted effortlessly. Still, the chase wasn't over. The helicopter came around a corner, brandished with a firing device of some kind. It fired a short, light blue blast. A beam of the same color whizzed through the air right at the web-slinging hero. A direct hit stunned Spider-Man motionless out of the sky and plummeting to the street below.
