Taemin's POV,
I was sure of what I was seeing, yet part of me doubted it. Was this real? I squinted, trying to convince myself that I wasn't imagining things.
Naeun.
But she wasn't alone.
Our eyes met briefly before she quickly looked away, her hand slipping into the one beside her—Lee Jihoon's.
The guy who seemed more entwined in her life than anyone else these days. I couldn't overlook it. He was the first person to be this close to her... after our breakup.
At least, that was the conclusion drawn from the endless news articles and tabloids circulating about them.
The authenticity of their relationship gnawed at me, made worse by the fact that I wasn't part of her world anymore.
I tried to brush the thought away, telling myself it was just speculation. Even if it were true, I wanted to believe otherwise.
The venue was crowded, and I held myself back from approaching her. There were too many eyes, too many cameras capturing every movement. Approaching her here was impossible.
Then there was our own history—the scandal from years ago. A single picture of us at the park still echoed through the fandom, burned into everyone's minds.
Would that image ever fade? Unlikely. As long as I remained an idol, those memories would resurface, feeding into rumors and keeping us in the spotlight.
So, I made a decision to leave it to fate. If we crossed paths, I'd speak to her. Only if it happened naturally, without me forcing it. Then I'd know that maybe fate had brought us together again.
I left the venue, doing my best to dodge her, engaging with photographers to buy myself time and avoid suspicion.
My phone buzzed—a message from Joonwoon. 'Where are you? I'm heading to the car already.'
As I read the text, I lost sight of Naeun. I sighed inwardly, pretending I was fine with it. But deep down, I knew exactly what I wanted in that moment.
As I approached the car, a sense of melancholy weighed heavily on me. Joonwoon noticed my distant expression. "You okay?"
"Yeah, I'm fine," I replied simply. There was no point in bringing it up. Not yet, at least. I knew what he'd say.
Staring out of the car window, I caught a glimpse of Jihoon's figure. If he was still around, Naeun had to be close by too.
"Joonwoon, hold on. I think I left something inside," I lied, seizing the chance to go back.
