Naeun's POV,

Determined to move forward despite the uncertainty, I embraced my decisions. Not only was I resolved to keep the child, but I was also determined to pursue the job opportunity Mrs. Shen had offered. The daunting challenge of working with a growing belly didn't deter me. I was ready to find a way to convince Mrs. Shen that I could handle the role, no matter the circumstances.

The echo of my footsteps filled the quiet hallway as I approached Mrs. Shen's office. The glass door loomed ahead, the brown blinds drawn tightly, obscuring the view inside. I took a deep breath and knocked firmly.

"Come in."

I was caught off guard by the unfamiliar voice that answered. With my curiosity piqued, I turned the doorknob and stepped into the room. There, behind the desk, stood a man whose face I recognized but couldn't quite place. Something about him felt familiar, yet distant, like a fragment of a forgotten memory.

The unease in my chest grew as I realized Mrs. Shen wasn't present. My gaze shifted back to the man, who met my eyes with a knowing smile that deepened my sense of discomfort.

"Sorry, you're probably looking for Mrs. Shen," he said smoothly, his voice calm and self-assured.

I nodded, offering a polite smile despite my confusion. "Yes, I was hoping to meet with her. I'm Son Naeun."

He stepped forward, extending his hand in greeting. "I'm Jihoon. Lee Jihoon."

We shook hands, the exchange polite but tinged with an undercurrent of curiosity on both sides. I wasted no time getting to the point. "I was hoping to discuss a contract with Mrs. Shen."

Jihoon gave a thoughtful nod, though uncertainty flickered in his expression. "I'm not sure when she'll be back, but if you don't mind, you can tell me about the contract, and I'll make sure she gets the message."

His warm, gummy smile eased some of the tension, though a part of me still hesitated. Regardless, I went ahead and explained, "It's an incredible opportunity, and I'm really excited about it. However, I have one condition. I can only start after at least nine months."

Jihoon's brows furrowed slightly as he processed my words. "Nine months? That's a long time. Do you need the time for studies or something?"

I hesitated, the silence stretching between us. But then, as if sensing he had pried too much, Jihoon quickly added, "Sorry, I think I asked too much." He followed up with a reassuring smile. "Don't worry, I'll talk to Mrs. Shen about it."

His willingness to take on this task intrigued me, raising questions about his position within the company. Who was Jihoon, and why did he seem so self-assured? It struck me as unusual for an ordinary employee to exhibit such confidence in dealing with someone like Mrs. Shen.
