Naeun's POV,

Days had slipped by without a word between us. The realization that he was deliberately avoiding me gnawed at my thoughts, leaving me in a whirlwind of mixed emotions. Strangely enough, I found myself torn between relief and a flicker of disappointment.

Isn't this what I wanted? I sighed, releasing a breath heavy with unresolved feelings.

Today was the day the DNA test results were ready, but I felt no excitement. The answer was already clear to me.

I unfolded the paper carefully, my eyes scanning the contents once more, as if needing the words to solidify the truth I already knew. "It is what it is, Taemin."

Relief washed over me, but it carried a bitter edge. This piece of paper gave me the closure I needed—a clean reason to sever the fragile connections between Yongrae, myself, and him. At least for now.

I dialed his number, anxiety and anticipation swirling together as I waited for him to pick up. "Can we meet? The results are out."

He agreed and gave me an address.

When I arrived at the cafe, I spotted him at a corner table, his demeanor blending in with the subdued atmosphere. I approached, pulling out the chair opposite him, a practiced smile masking the turbulence underneath.

Wasting no time, I pulled the envelope from my bag and slid it across the table. "Open it."

He hesitated before unfolding the paper, scanning its contents. I watched him closely, eager to put this place, this chapter, behind me.

"This isn't Yongrae's DNA," he murmured, his voice low but steady. "Is it?"

I met his gaze, my tone cool and firm, trying to impress upon him the finality of it all. "You wanted the truth, and that's the answer you got. Yongrae is my son. Not yours."

His lips curled into a resigned smile, a mix of acceptance and something else I couldn't quite place. "I had a feeling you might pull this, but I didn't think you'd actually go through with it."

He slid another envelope across the table toward me. The unease that had been simmering within me began to boil. "I ran my own DNA test. Just in case you played a tricky card."

My heart pounded as I tore open the envelope, dread settling in my chest. This wasn't the scenario I'd anticipated.

Probability of Paternity: 99.98%

Time seemed to freeze as the undeniable truth stared back at me. He knew. He knew the truth now, and there was no going back.

Taemin's voice was soft, but the weight of his words hit me like a punch to the gut. "He's my son too, Naeun."
