Naeun's POV,

I had insisted to Taemin that I could drive myself to my parents' house. But by the time we were on the phone this morning, I was too exhausted to argue anymore. I thought maybe, just maybe, if Joonwoon had dragged him home last night, Taemin would've overslept and forgotten about today. No such luck. The very first thing he brought up was picking me up. So here we were — him parked in the car outside while I firmly told him to stay put and not bother coming inside to walk me out.

As I approached his car, I tapped on the window, pulling him from whatever had him engrossed on his phone. He glanced up, smiled, and stepped out. Before I could stop him, he walked around to my side and opened the car door.

"I can open the door myself," I muttered, embarrassment bubbling up as a blush crept to my cheeks.

"It's fine. Just get in," Taemin said, his tone casual but warm, like it was the most natural thing in the world.

I sighed and slid into the seat. Once I was settled, he gently shut the door and got into the driver's seat.

"Next time, you don't have to do that. What if someone sees us? And remember, we don't have anything going on," I said softly, fumbling with my seatbelt.

Without a word, Taemin leaned over to help fasten it, his proximity making my breath hitch. The air between us shifted, thick with an unspoken tension. When his hand brushed against mine, warmth surged to my cheeks.

Once the belt clicked into place, he lingered, his eyes holding a mix of playfulness and intent. "But what if I want something to be going on between us?" he said smoothly, a teasing smile tugging at his lips as he threw in that signature wink of his.

His words hung in the air, charged and full of meaning, blurring the boundaries we both kept trying to set. My heart raced, the line between friendship and something more suddenly feeling paper-thin.

I rolled my eyes, willing myself to stay unfazed. "Just start driving."

Taemin chuckled as he started the car. "You know I could drive myself, right?" I said again, hoping to regain some sense of control.

"Yeah, I know," he replied with a shrug, his eyes on the road. "But then you'd just come up with excuses like, 'What about my car later?' or something. So, I'm driving you. No big deal."

He glanced at me briefly, his tone casual yet purposeful as he added, "Besides, I miss Yongrae. I'll drop you off and spend a little time with him."

I let out a soft sigh, turning my gaze toward the window. The road stretched ahead, framed by rows of trees swaying gently in the wind. It was one of those drives where the silence wasn't uncomfortable but carried an undercurrent of unsaid things.
