Naeun's POV,
I woke up to sunlight softly filtering through the curtains, but the pounding headache reminded me that the hangover still lingered. Groaning, I struggled to piece together what had happened the previous night. As my surroundings slowly came into focus, I realized I was in my bed. How did I get here? The memories were hazy, fragments of the dinner with Taemin floating back to me in bits and pieces.
With a sigh, I forced myself to sit up, wincing at the sharp ache in my head. I pushed myself out of bed, unsteady on my feet, the fog in my mind matching the echo of my footsteps as I walked out of the room. Taemin was nowhere to be seen—probably drove back home after everything. But when I reached the dining table, I noticed a yellow sticky note.
'I'm getting us brunch. Be back soon.'
My brow furrowed as I reread the note. So, he stayed the night after all.
A strange feeling of deja vu washed over me, though I couldn't quite place it. I tried to piece together more details from the night before, but the harder I tried, the worse the headache grew. I could vaguely remember talking about Mrs. Shen, but the rest—the how, the why—remained elusive.
Feeling parched, I walked to the kitchen and grabbed a glass of water, gulping it down to ease my dry throat. As I stood there, my eyes wandered to the cabinets, and suddenly, flashes of last night surged back—the closeness between us, the quiet moments, the tension. I coughed, as if trying to clear the thoughts away. No, focus.
I needed to clear my head. A shower would help. The sound of water running was the perfect distraction, washing away the lingering confusion. But even after I was done, Taemin still hadn't returned.
To pass the time, I busied myself with organizing Yongrae's clothes, folding and refolding them in an attempt to steady my thoughts. But my focus was interrupted by the sound of the doorbell, startling me.
"Wait, I'm coming!" I called out from Yongrae's room, my heart racing slightly. Checking through the intercom, I saw Taemin standing at the door, holding a bag of food. Relief washed over me. Not many knew I lived here, but I couldn't shake the fear of someone else showing up one day.
I opened the door, giving him a small smile. "What did you get?" I asked, eyeing the bag in his hands.
"Bibimbap and hangover soup. Thought it might help," he replied with a grin as he set the bag on the table, his eyes meeting mine.
I nodded, feeling oddly grateful for his thoughtfulness. "Do you want to eat—" we both started at the same time, our words clashing. We paused, then laughed awkwardly.
"You first," Taemin said, gesturing for me to go on.
"Eat now or later?" I asked, a small smile tugging at my lips.
