Naeun's POV,

As I folded Yongrae's clothes into neat stacks, he sat at his little table, busy scribbling away with his crayons. His brow furrowed in concentration, but his voice broke the quiet with a question that caught me completely off guard.

"Did Daddy Taemin pick the house for us?" he asked innocently, not even looking up from his drawing.

I blinked, startled. "Why do you think that?"

He shrugged nonchalantly, his small shoulders lifting as he continued to color. "I don't know," he mumbled, as if the thought had just casually floated into his mind.

My heart raced, unsure how to navigate this sudden line of questioning. Trying to steer the conversation elsewhere, I got up and leaned over his shoulder to see what he was drawing. "What are you working on?" I asked, forcing my voice to sound light.

He held up his paper with a proud smile. It was a drawing of three stick figures: a lady in a white dress, a child in the middle, and a man in black.

"Is this Mommy?" I asked, pointing to the figure in the white dress.

Yongrae nodded eagerly. "And this is me," he said, his little finger pointing to the child sandwiched between the adults.

I glanced at the third figure. "And is this Daddy Jihoon?" I asked, half-joking to gauge his reaction.

Yongrae shook his head firmly. "No. That's Daddy Taemin."

My breath caught. I froze for a moment, the words sinking in as an unfamiliar weight settled in my chest. I managed a shaky giggle to mask my unease. "Oh, I see. You like Daddy Taemin more than Daddy Jihoon?"

"Daddy Jihoon has Mommy Chorong already," he said matter-of-factly, his tone so simple it almost broke me. "So it's okay."

His innocent logic made me smile and ache at the same time. I let out a small laugh, rubbing his hair affectionately. "You're something else, you know that?"

But then he turned to me, his big, curious eyes locking onto mine. "Can I have Daddy Taemin as my dad, Mommy?"

The question hit me like a wave, pulling the air from my lungs. My hands stilled on his head as I searched for an answer, any answer, that wouldn't betray the storm inside me.

I managed a weak smile and ruffled his hair again. "Daddy Taemin will call you later, okay? Maybe you can ask him yourself," I said quickly, my voice trembling as I stood up and escaped to the kitchen.

Leaning against the counter, I closed my eyes and took a deep breath, trying to still the whirlwind of emotions swirling inside me. Yongrae's innocent words from earlier replayed in my mind, the weight of them pressing harder against my chest. How much longer could I keep sidestepping the truth?
