Naeun's POV,
After paying the cab driver, Naeun stepped out in front of her apartment building, her steps quickening with the weight of fatigue pressing down on her. She headed straight for the elevator and jabbed at her floor number, tapping her foot as the lift ascended far too slowly for her liking.
The familiar beep of the passcode echoed in the quiet hallway. As soon as the door clicked open, she slipped inside, kicked off her shoes, and made a beeline for her bed. The moment her body hit the mattress, the exhaustion of the past day caught up with her. She didn't even pull the blanket over herself before sleep claimed her.
When she stirred again, the glow of her phone screen made her squint. 12:30 p.m.
Her heart lurched. Shit.
She shot upright, nearly tangling herself in the blanket as she stumbled out of bed. With a groggy mind still trying to catch up, she darted into the bathroom, muttering under her breath.
A fast, lukewarm shower helped snap her awake. She towel-dried her hair with one hand while reaching into the closet with the other, eventually settling on a crisp white shirt and black jeans—casual, but clean and sharp enough for the day ahead. Her fingers worked quickly to braid her hair into a neat ponytail, and she dabbed on a bit of lip tint just as the doorbell rang.
She froze mid-swipe.
Bomi never rang the bell. Not when they lived together.
Brows furrowed, she padded over to the door and opened it without checking the screen.
Ilhoon stood there, hands in his pockets, wearing his usual easy smile. "Hey. Bomi couldn't make it so she asked me to come pick you up instead."
Naeun blinked, caught off guard, but nodded. "Oh. Alright. Come in for a sec," she said, stepping aside.
He made himself at home on the sofa, while she rushed back into her room. "Just give me a minute!" she called, her voice slightly muffled as she grabbed her bag, slipped on her watch, and triple-checked that she hadn't missed anything important.
After a final glance in the mirror, she slung the tote over her shoulder and walked back out, tightening her grip on the straps. "Okay, I'm ready."
They made their way down to the basement parking, the air cooler and dimmer underground. The ride to campus was fast, with Ilhoon weaving through traffic like he'd done it a thousand times. She barely registered the passing scenery, her mind already racing ahead to the day's schedule.
When they reached the university, he dropped her off at the front entrance with a quick nod before heading off to park the car.
She had barely taken three steps when her phone buzzed in her hand.
