"being able to see these curses is a curse in itself."
y/n let out a heavy sigh as she stood before the painfully familiar building before her. a whirlwind of emotions ran through her.
"you can do this"
she hadn't been to tokyo in six years. the only reason she even returned was because the principal of the tokyo jujutsu high contacted her himself, who also happened to be her former teacher.
she'd been able to see curses ever since she was young. somehow she never questioned it. not when one destroyed her house. not when she watched her mom die because of one. not when her father abandoned her.
she was introduced to jujutsu when an elder of the zenin clan saw her fight off a grade three spirit when she was eight. even though she barely won, she showed great talent. an asset for the clan.
she didn't know then who they were or what she had got herself into. but where else was she to go?
living with and training under the people of the clan was no picnic either. she had missed many opportunities because she wasn't a blood related member.
she wasn't treated like a human, no. it would be funny to think that the elders ever would. she was a weapon.
no one really saw her or knew her or made her feel like her life did matter. till she came to jujutsu high.
"can i help you?", a girl with dark green hair and glasses looked at her suspiciously.
"uh, no", she shook her head, giving the girl a small smile before walking through the gates.
"her face seems kind of familiar"
"hmm", she was seemingly unconvinced because she followed y/n discreetly, looking on as she walked into the principal's office.
"ah, yaga-sensei", she greeted
"how are you?", he asked, "been too long hasn't it?"
"too long", she smiled, "damn, you're the principal now"
"and you're a freaking nomad y/n.", he shook his head, "anyway, getting to the reason i called you here.."
"yeah before that, who is the girl following me and listening to our conversation?"
the girl from before walked in, clearly flustered at being caught so easily.
"this is maki zenin", yaga explained, "maki meet l/n y/n, special grade sorcerer."
he refrained from using the clan name with y/n's name, settling for her original last name. the corner of y/n's lip twitched at this but she said nothing, going along with it.
y/n now realised why maki looked so familiar. she was one of the twins in line to be head of the clan.
"wait is she the one who left the zenin family behind? that must make us.... well pretty similar i'd say"
"zenin?", y/n asked, "hmm"
maki raised her eyebrows at this, "special grade?"
"yup"
"by the way y/n what the hell have you brought along with you?", yaga asked in an annoyed tone. he was referring to the animal behind her.
a dog. if you could even call it that. actually he looked more like a wolf. his fur was jet black, he held a ferocious expression and brilliant blue eyes.
"meet kuro", she grinned, petting the dog, "my cursed doggo"
"the fact that he's alive means t-"
"he's not a summoning animal. he is a modified cursed corpse", y/n revealed
"like panda?", yaga asked
"similar", she shrugged, "except i have utmost control over him"
"but that would require such precise control of cursed energy!", maki exclaimed. she had only just learned of the dog, because she couldn't see curses.
"she isn't a special grade for namesake maki", yaga said, "and i have some business to discuss with y/n now so..."
"right, excuse me", maki walked out of the room
"so?..", y/n looked at him expectantly
"there has been talk of an intelligent cursed spirit lately", he said
"so? we face those all the time"
"nanami faced him and nearly lost", he explained, "i need you to pinpoint his location"
"kento senpai did?", she raised her eyebrows
"he did."
"i'm sure gojo-senpai is perfectly capable of tracking the curse right?", she asked indifferently
"yeah but you do it better than him", he shrugged, "and besides..."
"okay i'm here anyway", she waved him off, knowing that he would give some sorry excuse, "so where do i go?"
"see if you can find him in tokyo. once you do, report back and i'll assign two students to go with you."
she nodded, "where am i staying?"
"your old room is empty. going back to the zenin household isn't an option.", he threw a pair of keys at her
"thanks boss", she waved before walking away with her bags, kuro trailing behind her.
she slowly opened the door to the room she'd left behind, inhaling sharply. some things looked different, as if someone had stayed here in the time she was gone.
the armchair was shifted over to the window- side and the bed sheets looked new but apart from that, a thousand memories played in her head.
flashback: seven years ago
"satoru if someone saw you here...", y/n clicked her tongue, letting the boy through her door hurriedly
"you worry too much, don't you baby?", gojo grinned, walking into her room as if he owned the damn place before throwing himself on her bed
"i'll be the one getting yelled at cause no one gets angry at you", she sighed, sitting down on the bed next to him
"i'll tell them then", he winked at her, grabbing her hand to pull her into his lap, causing her to let out a gasp.
"what will you tell them?", she whispered, pouting as she played with the collar of the shirt he was wearing.
"that it was entirely", he planted a kiss underneath her jaw, making a smile adorn her face
"truly", he kissed along the line of her exposed collarbone before looking at her
"inexcusably", he pressed his lips to hers, kissing her for a few seconds before stopping, "my fault"
end of flashback
"it was your fault indeed", y/n mumbled before beginning to unpack
