Loud and Clear - comfort

Third Person POV

Kai knew be shouldn't have come here without Nya. But she was asleep and he sure as hell didn't know how to wake her, nor did he want to.

So now he's here. At a small coffee shop a few blocks away from his house. The drinks are maybe a bit overpriced but he really likes the place overall.

Mostly for the cute blonde barista he met the other day...

And surprisingly said barista didn't find out about Kai's secret just yet, considering his sister being there to speak for him.

But now things may be different.

He opened the door and luckily the counter was clear, and that same boy was there, waving to a customer as he gave him his coffee.

Kai walked towards the counter, and Lloyd stared at him with an excited smile.

"Good to see you again, sir! What can I get for you?" the blonde grabbed his notepad as he got to the front.

Kai paused. He looked at the latter's mouth as he spoke, trying to see what he said.

"W-What can I get for you?" he asked again, this time a bit louder.

Still no response.

A loud thud made Lloyd jump and look behind Kai, only to see that a child had fallen out of their seat, laughing.

It was cute, but he turned his attention back to the brunette, who was looking up at the menu above him.

There's no way he couldn't hear the kid behind him, let alone the blonde himself.

'...he can't hear me!' Lloyd finally understood. He was deaf.

Exactly a year had passed since Kai and Lloyd began dating.

It's been weeks since Lloyd actually got this, and it took months for him to save up enough money. But now it was time to give it to him.

'Do you mind telling me how you lost your hearing?' Lloyd asked. Kai flinched at the question, but soon relaxed when he felt a soft hand on his own. Nya nodded in understanding, as a way of saying he didn't have to do it. The brunette took a deep breath as he lifted his hands up and explained...

'..there was an explosion at my house when I was young...parents did something stupid and got involved with the mafia. The blow made my ears bleed, and I couldn't hear them calling to me. Next thing I knew, I was in the hospital with my sister..my parents died in the fire...'

Lloyd's eyes widened.

He reached into his bag and pulled out something small. 'Can you close your eyes for me?' he signed. Kai hesitantly did, and Lloyd slipped the small device onto his lover's ear. He got out a remote and pressed a button, making a loud beep in Kai's ear.

He jolted, opening his eyes as he felt his ear. Did he just hear something..?

Nya stared at him and said calmly;
"...can you hear us now?"

He could.

It's a hearing aid.

Kai nodded, tears flowing in his eyes. "Y-Yes..." He was startled by his own voice. It was hoarse and low, but still enough to make his sister cry as well. She quickly wrapped her arms around him as the siblings cried, and Lloyd walked off back to their room.

Later in the day, Kai returned to his shared bedroom and sat down on the empty bed, relishing in all the little sounds made.

Soft footsteps could be heard from their closet. Kai opened his eyes as he remembered that he hadn't heard his lover's voice yet.

He now sat up fully as Lloyd entered the room in his pajamas.

"Can- can you say something to me? Please I..I want to hear you." he said, almost desperately.

Lloyd chuckled softly, Kai gasped at how different the voice was. The blonde leaned in close to his face, and uttered four very important words...

"..I love you, Kai."
