Third Person POV

Kai was known to pride himself over many things, but a baker, he never claimed to be.

That is, until he met Lloyd, his now-boyfriend, going on one year.

It was a familiar pattern- according to Nya- where he'd never mean to lie, of course, but his people-pleasing desire would always take over. And then came all the white lies.

He'd never flat out deceive his potential partners, of course. But if it was something they wanted or liked- something Kai couldn't already give them in some way- he'd make it seem like he could.

Now, was his claim to be able to bake absolutely anything a lie? Yes.

But was his claim to bake in general a lie? Not exactly.

Again, according to Nya, he was an amazing cook on all accounts. Baking was no different, and with certain deserts, he found himself quite happy with the results.

Compared to the bakers he'd see on TV, however, he was always too different.

Too forgetful with ingredients. Too messy with any and all equipment he used. Too unprepared with his space and time. Too stubborn to follow the recipes exactly.

Too clumsy to ever call himself a professional.

For a while, though, that never bothered him. He was still having fun, baking away, why would it bother him?

But, Kai feared, it would most certainly bother Lloyd. And yet, he still promised he'd bake for him once they moved in together.

Upon first meeting his blonde beauty (that nickname stuck, even with said blonde's protest), there were two things he saw in Lloyd.

The first was, well, he was just too cute.

Those emerald eyes were one of the many wonders about Lloyd Garmadon. If Kai had enough time on his hands, he might just write a book about it all. At first glance, they were green with yellow flecks, like a meadow lined with buttercups. In the right light, they might have even been gold.

The second- and main thing that drew Kai to him- was his maturity.

When they had gone on dates, Lloyd was always the first one there, and the one to plan out most of it. Everything went smoothly when Lloyd was around, he seemed to have all of his life put together.

What if Kai ruins that when they move in together? What if Lloyd found out about Kai's clumsiness and irresponsibility?

What if he hated him for it? What if Lloyd wanted everything to be picture perfect in their house and he would never be able to meet his love's expectations?

Then the day came for him to move in and... well, those worries ended very shortly.

It wasn't until that day, that Kai found the truth: Lloyd was actually far more clumsy than he was. His maturity stayed to a degree, as it always did, but more often than not, the opposite would show.

Lloyd would lose items that he just had, have mood swings (some scarier than others), sometimes forgetting to eat or drink for hours. In truth, Lloyd was only ever punctual when it came to events with people he liked. Along with a slew of other things that surely lead to some diagnosis that Kai didn't bother prying about.

They'd moved in together only recently- neither of them regretting any of it- but Lloyd never forgot that promise, and Kai certainly didn't either.

And so, here he finds himself, standing like an idiot outside the doorway to their living room. With the love of his life on the couch, hyperfocused on some ARG commentary, and Kai himself simply waiting for any sort of confidence to kick in.

In his very shaky hand was a small plate, and in the other, a fork (with green frog tape on the handle: it was Lloyd's favorite.)

What upped his confidence was the fact that it wouldn't be too random. With Lloyd forgetting to eat, often times, it resulted in Kai bringing him food at random hours of the day- so of course the blonde didn't think much of it when he crossed the room and sat next to him.

What did catch his eye, however, was what was on the plate.

His mouth gaped in awe, and he rushed to pause the video on his laptop. With one harsh click, the room was completely silent, which did not make Kai's worrying much better.

" ...what is this?" Lloyd knew the answer before he asked.

On the plate was a rather large piece of cake; what Lloyd could only assume was strawberry, with vanilla icing and sprinkles. Simple, yes, but still his favorite.

"Figured I'd make due on that promise."

But Kai barely had time to explain it before Lloyd took the plate- and fork- and dug in. Kai wasn't sure if he heard him at all.

With one mouthful, he froze, and Kai couldn't tell if it was a good or a bad thing.

"That bad?"

Lloyd grabbed his shoulder- something he did when he got excited- and finished chewing. "Shut up."

He did, and waited for Lloyd to finish before he spoke again.

"...how is it?"

Lloyd gave him a deadpan expression. "Kai, I just ate the whole thing. It's so obviously terrible."

"I get it, but..."

Lloyd quickly shut him up again, cupping his face with his hands. He turned to face him, the plate forgotten on the floor.

"This is amazing- is really is- how have you never baked me anything before?Have you tried this yet?"

Kai shook his head- the best that he could- and Lloyd smirked before pulling him down into a kiss.

Kissing him was always sweet, but this time it was sweeter. He could taste some of the cake on his tongue, and- it was actually delicious. Kai wrapped his arms around Lloyd's chest and reveled in it for as long as he could.

Lloyd pulled away. "Good, right?"

"Yeah," Kai said, half dazed. "The cake was pretty good too."

Lloyd scoffed and rolled his eyes. "So you believe me now and least?"

"Kiss me again and I might."

-

Kai prides himself on many things, and a baker, he still doesn't claim to be for most.

But when it came to Lloyd, just about anything was possible. Every day always had something new to it, and this was no exception.

He can add that to the list of things he loved about Lloyd.
