Katherine got tired of waiting for Jessica to come back after five minutes. She wasn't scared because she could see that Jessica was herself once more, a pity in her opinion as she believed a no humanity Jessica would be an entertaining friend to have. Katherine waltzed around the compound looking for alcohol before she found herself in the nursery. She walked over to the cribs where the twins laid, fast asleep. "They're adorable, aren't they?" A voice asks from the doorway.

Katherine turns and sees Sean or as she likes to think of him, priest-boy. "They are, Priest-boy. Jessica, Klaus, and Damon did good."

Sean rolls his eyes. "I'm not a seminary student anymore. I'm just a normal person."

"Your best friend is like every supernatural creature Nature ever thought up. What's normal about that?"

Sean chuckles as he walks over to the rocking chair to take a seat. "You know what I've been wondering since you came back?"

"I know I don't care."

"Why did she let you come back?" Katherine frowns at this as he continues. "I mean, from the moment I met her she didn't have a kind word to say about you. You came to town and ruined her relationship after Damon had already hurt her once by betraying her to get you out of a tomb you weren't in. Then you tried to kill Klaus, got her brother killed, and possessed her sister. You've never done anything to show you were good that wasn't a result of having to obey her because you're in Hell, so why give you a second chance?"

"Do you know how I came to be the way I am?" This time, it's Sean who frowns as Katherine continues. "When I was 17, I had a child out of wedlock. Do you know what my family did? They ripped my child away from me, sent her away, and banished me from Bulgaria. I was sentenced to England where I met a man named Trevor who promised to introduce me to some lords that could help me. And he did, he introduced me to Lords Elijah and Klaus Mikaelson. I was naïve but I needed help.

"I believed that Klaus cared for me and the whole time he was sleeping with Jessica. Meanwhile, Elijah did care for me. Enough that he tried to save me but in revealing my fate to me, I couldn't trust him. I trusted my family and I trusted Klaus and they had both thrown it back in my face, so I ran. I knew that he needed me human so I got Rose to give me her blood and then I killed myself. I didn't want to be a beast, but I wanted to live.

"You talk about me as though I asked for what happened or as if I wanted to be the person I became but when you spend over 500 years surviving you will do anything to continue that. I didn't mean to get in between Jessica and Damon but I needed him distracted so he wouldn't figure out my plan. Little did I know, Jessica had already arranged for everything with Klaus. I didn't know Silas would kill Jeremy, I just knew that if I wanted my freedom, I needed that cure and as for Elena, I didn't want to die and she was my way of preventing that."

"Do you regret it? Who you became?" He questions, lowly, and Katherine frowns, seeing the sadness in his eyes and she realizes that he's sympathizing with her. He isn't pitying her or judging her, he is trying to understand her, something that only Damon and Elijah had tried to do and Damon didn't even really care.

"I do. I regret not searching more for my daughter after I turned. I just assumed she was dead with the rest of my family, but she wasn't and I didn't even try to find her. I regret hurting Jessica because she's the only person that's ever truly cared about me without wanting anything in return. She convinced Klaus to set me free even after I had tried to hand her best friend over to Klaus for his sacrifice. She's a good person and she makes me want to be better."

Before Sean can respond, they hear a commotion downstairs and head to the balcony to see that Jessica had returned with Ophelia and Kassandra with her. They share a look before quietly closing the balcony doors and heading downstairs. Jessica explains what happened and that the council is officially gone but they need a new one.
