Later that night;
Barry's POV;I didn't know what was going on; but Suzie had seemed off for most of the day unless she was hanging with Gilby who seemed to be keeping her laughing and in that happy zone where nothing seemed to bother her but the minute I saw her in the kitchen or heading to her room, she looked down and almost close to tears.
Gilby was an asset around the house because it meant that I had someone to side with me for a change especially when it came to phoning for takeout. Heather and Suzie had wanted Chinese but I had wanted Pizza, and was more than grateful when Gilby had taken my side on the argument. I don't know if anything had happened between my best friend and the famous guitarist but they seemed to be closer than they had been up until last night.
I was happy for her, she had been a huge Gilby fan from the minute he had joined Guns N' Roses, who were one of her favourite bands of all time. I had listened to countless dreams that she had, had of being with the man who was currently pulling on his boots to head in to the club with her for opening time.
People thought that the relationship Suzie and I shared was weird but in all honesty, I wouldn't want it any other way, I loved the fact that she was in my life permanently, I loved the fact that we were as close as we were and I loved the fact that there were no boundaries between us. Our friendship had been unique from the very beginning, I had known that she had only talked to me because of her best friend at the time.
We had been in Junior High for a few months, the social structure had already been formed; Suzie and her friends hadn't exactly been high on the chain of things, infact if I remember correctly, they pretty much stayed away from everyone, they had their own little group and did things their own way regardless of what people thought of them. I knew that Suzie could have given a rats ass about what was socially acceptable, she had always been her own person, she did things because she wanted to do them and not because someone dictated that, that was the way things had to be done and in all honesty that was one of the things that I loved most about her.
But anyway, her friend Susan had apparently developed this huge crush on me but had been too shy to talk to me, the girl was what my friends at the time had called socially retarded. The girl, Susan was what you would call a wall flower, nothing special to look at with wild hair and all the social skills of rain-man. Suzie had taken it upon herself to come up to me and start talking to me. It had started in math class, she had taken the seat behind me and we started talking until I had eventually moved in to the empty seat next to her, rather than sit next to my buddy Richard. Then it had eventually upgraded to hanging out on breaks and such until we started hanging out after school.
At first my friends hadn't understood it, they didn't like Suzie because she had opinions that didn't convert to theirs, they thought she was brash and loud mouthed, which I have to admit she sometimes is but now that I am older, I wouldn't change about her at all. I love the fact that she is passionate about things that mean something to her, I love the fact that she has opinions that often don't make much sense to anyone but herself. However, after Suzie and I had been hanging out, outside of school, for about a month, I introduced her to my other friends and after about an hour of hanging out with her, they all loved her about as much as I did.
Needless to say that I never had a desire to date the girl that had caused Suzie and I to become friends until about a year ago when I had bumped in to her on a night out, she had changed, really come in to her own, she was stunningly beautiful but the more time I spent with her the more I realized that she was emotionally stunted and there was nothing more off putting to me than a woman who couldn't express her feelings or just be with a man and allow herself to be affectionate, so it didn't last long, thankfully.
