Chapter 26
Liam POV
My wolf was furious with me after I'd agreed to spar with Quinn. He doesn't want to hurt a hair on her body. Now however, he was angry for a different reason. Quinn had just pinned me within the first thirty seconds of the fight. She is fast. And strong. Really strong. I've never seen a shewolf like her before. My wolf didn't like to lose though. And neither did I.
After we'd gotten up from the first pin, I reassessed her. Quinn was tall but I'm taller by a little under a foot. I obviously weigh significantly more but she's got a lot of muscle. I can see it ripple through her abdomen as she prepares for the next round.
Stop it! I warned myself.
I couldn't get distracted by her body right now. I needed a plan of attack. I'd been trained by the castle's head trainer, Seth. He's the best fighter I know and I'm sure I can use some of my superior training on Quinn.
I let her make the first move this time. I'm no longer in a rush to get this over with. I want to see what my mate can do. She must have taken the hint and she went low for my legs. As I prepared to counter, at the last second she shifted her weight and brought the heel of her hand towards my shoulder. I saw her quick change but was unable to block it in time. She's so incredibly fast.
I quickly recovered and went at her with some of my moves. She was quick to counter each and every one though. It was like she knew all my tricks. This started to wear on me. I'm the prince for goddess' sake. I shouldn't have any problem taking down an average shewolf.
'She isn't an average shewolf. You can see that,' my wolf corrected me.
I didn't have time to respond before Quinn was in my face again. I couldn't let her win this. I need to be near her in Diamond Crescent. I need to know she's safe. Using this as my motivation, I was able to get her quickly into a hold. My move took her by surprise and I pinned her to the ground. The sparks traveling between us were almost unbearable in this position. I could feel them through the whole length of my body.
After the five seconds were up, I released Quinn to reset herself. She stood up and wiped a bead of sweat from her forehead. She looked pissed. She honestly believed she could take me down. I could also tell she was slightly uncomfortable though. The sparks between us had some effect on her. Maybe I could use this to my advantage.
We started our dance again. She blocks me, I block her. She lands a hit, I land one back. We were so evenly matched. Who had trained this girl to be such a worthy fighter? I was no longer feeling irritation with her. I was starting to feel pride. The moon goddess had gifted me with an amazing mate. She would be a great queen to the werewolf kingdom someday.
Quinn caught me off guard in my thoughts and knocked my feet out from under me. Within a second she was sitting on my abdomen with my arms and legs locked underneath her. I didn't even bother fighting. I just smiled at her. I was enjoying the feeling of her on top of me. I stretched out underneath her and pressed myself up into her slightly trying to gain more contact with her body. She looked stunned at first and then her face shifted to anger.
The five seconds must have been up because she was off me and across the mat before I'd realized she was gone. I stood up slowly and gave her a sly grin. She was affected by me. She may not be happy about it right now but she feels the connection between us. I might be able to use this to my advantage.
I gestured for her to start the next round. This one would go to me. I'm sure of it. Quinn's face hadn't changed and she came at me full force. This was no longer a sparring match to her. She wanted to prove to me that I didn't affect her. Oh Quinn, how wrong you are.
