Chapter 29
Quinn POV
"Ethan! Suze! I'm so glad you could join us for the training session!" I yelled to the two of them as they made their way to the training grounds. Suze looked like she was in a foul mood and Ethan was still limping slightly.
"I wasn't coming without Suze here," Ethan said, wrapping his arm around Suze's shoulders. "Liam may have the power to make me go but I thought Suze needed to join in on this. Wouldn't want her to miss out on any of the fun."
Suze gave Ethan the most vicious glare I've ever seen from her in my life. Suze does not love to train on the weekends. This is her relaxation time. Though she's strong, she comes by a lot of it naturally and doesn't feel the need to improve herself too much above what she already has. She has some moves she's learned from Reggie and does her necessary cardio and weights but that's it. Anything extra and Suze is not going to be happy. I think Ethan realized this and he quickly jogged away to where the other trainees were getting ready. That's the fastest I've seen him move since the first leg of our workout this morning.
"Hi Suze," I heard Liam say from just over my shoulder.
"Hey prince Liam," Suze grumbled under her breath. Apparently she wasn't too scared to show Liam her distaste with him being the reason she was forced into this. Suze stomped off to the main grounds following Ethan closely behind.
"Uhh, I guess I'm not her favorite person right now," Liam admitted.
"Definitely not," I agreed. "Suze hates going to extra training sessions. Even I can't make her go normally. Ethan must have some pull on her to get her here against her will."
"That's the mate bond," Liam said with a sigh.
Suze and Ethan had marked each other and mated last night after the ball. They didn't waste any time. I'm happy that Suze got what she wanted in life. Ethan is perfect for her. He may annoy her but in the end they're great for each other. They're both so happy and energetic but with Suze being down to earth and Ethan with his head in the clouds, they balance each other out so well.
"Care to show me the ropes?" Liam asked, pulling me out of my thoughts.
"Of course," I replied. "These are the main training grounds. Earlier we were at the training facility which is over there," I pointed towards the large building on our right. "That's great for smaller sessions but when we have sessions open to all our warriors or guards, we have them here in the clearing. That way there's enough room to spread out and we have the elements to work with. It's the best way to train in order to be prepared for any scenario. It's also safer that way as we can better hear if there are any irregularities in the environment we need to look out for."
"You seem to know a lot about this," Liam said with pride.
"Of course," I agreed. "I'm the daughter of the head warrior and trainer. I know everything there is to know not only about this pack but all the packs around us. We need to know where our strengths and weaknesses lie in order to train successfully. If we were to lose a few guards in an attack, we need to know what happened and train our warriors to be able to fight off whatever took them down. That doesn't happen often though." I gave Liam a smug look. "We make sure of it."
It was now my turn to take my leave. Dad had just arrived from the training facility and it was time to get to work. I felt Liam follow behind me. Not too close but close enough that I could feel his presence. I appreciated him giving me at least a little space.
I saw dad looking around the crowd searching for me. I started jogging in his direction but Liam didn't follow this time. Maybe he's intimidated by my father. Dad caught sight of me and his face lit up. "There's my baby girl," he called. The rest of the pack members between us parted so I could make my way to my rightful spot beside my father.
"Where have you been all day?" he asked.
"I had a long training session this morning and then ended up taking a nap," I replied.
My father noticeably paused when I mentioned the nap. He knows that isn't like me. He chose not to comment on it though. I saw him look over my shoulder and his face turned cold. I followed his gaze and saw he was looking right in Liam's direction. I can imagine he isn't too fond of him after the state I was in last night. I'm still not fully sure how I feel about him either but it definitely isn't as negatively as I felt last night. I'm starting to warm up to him little by little. I don't know if I'm willing to leave Diamond Crescent for him but after the talk with my alpha and luna, I'm not sure if I'll even have a choice. I shivered at that thought and both my dad and Liam looked at me concerned. Liam looked like he was ready to shove everyone in his way to get to me and my dad just looked at me quizzically. I shook my head telling my dad it wasn't something I wanted to discuss right now. He took the hint and turned his attention back to the crowd gathered around us.
"Great turnout I see," he began addressing the crowd. "I'm happy to announce that we are graced by the presence of royalty this afternoon." Dad gestured in Liam's direction. Liam waved and nodded in his direction. I could tell he was a bit nervous though. He didn't expect to be called out like that and I think he could tell my dad wasn't too fond of him.
"Prince Liam is here to see how we do things here in Diamond Crescent. He has graciously agreed to get the full experience in order to immerse himself in our techniques." Oh no, I thought. This is what my dad is up to. "Feel free to welcome him with open arms. We want to show him what we are capable of, don't we?" Dad finished.
Everyone around him cheered and let off a few howls. I could feel all the power being let off around me. Liam still held the same stoic face but I could tell he was a bit scared of what my dad had in mind.
"Dad," I said. "Don't you think that's a bit harsh? You don't even know what he's capable of."
"If he can't handle a couple of Diamond Crescent warriors, then he is no man for my daughter." And with that comment, my dad went off to get the training started.
Poor Liam. He doesn't know what's coming. I just sure hope he can handle it. For his sake. And for mine.
