This time of year was always hard for the Halstead brothers especially Jay because he was closer with his mom his dad always hated him there dad always liked Will better Jay always took this two days off. Hailey never knew why she always texted him he always said he was fine she never believed him but this was the first year he didn't respond she was worried she was gonnna head over there but then Vanessa stopped her
V: hey aren't you coming to. Molly's tonight
H. No I'm gonna check on Jay
V: why the dudes ingoring you
H: because I know jay he would never ignore me
V: that's what you think but maybe he is leave him alone if he wants to come to you let him
H: this happens every year this is the first year that he has taken more than 2 days off and hasn't responded
V: let him be if he wants to be a dick let him don't go babying him
H: still I'm worried
V: don't be he can handle himself
H: your right he can
V: exactly let's party
Little did Hailey know he was t fine he was anything but fine and his PTSD was worse than ever that's why he's missing work Will was helping and he was back on meds but it took a little while to kick in and needed to make sure they wouldn't stop working and his asthma flared up to which didn't help his ptsd
It has been two weeks Jay hasn't returned which has Hailey worried and Vanessa kept saying he was a dick and coward and now she was starting to believe her
SV: ok so Jay has been out two weeks and not answering y'all well Will called and it's for medical reasons Will says he's fine and is returning Monday
V: ugh does he have to it's nice without him
SV: no it hasn't Rojas you may not like him ok but you are to respect him at work no matter what he is the senior detective in this unit and the Best Cop in this precinct so you are to respect him here what you do when your off the clock I don't care but you will not talk bad about him here got it

SV: good
Vanessa was pissed it was very obvious that jay is his favorite she hated it very much
Hailey walked over to Vanessa
V: ugh he plays favorites
H: not really but you did disrespect jay he thinks of all of us as family you disrespected his son he would have done the same thing of someone disrespected you

****** Monday*********

Jay walks up the steps after a few remarks from Trudy when he got to the top of the stairs Hailey got up to hug him but Vanessa grabbed her
V: we need to talk
H: why now
V: because. Who's it gonna be catch up with him or talk to me
H: why you being like this
V: like what
H: you hate Jay now he's back and your trying to keep me from him
V: I'm protecting you
H: I don't need protecting at all so stop i appreciate it but he's my best friend you have hated him from the start you don't him at all you think he's stuck up and mean but he's not he's got a heart of gold and he would die for anyone of his friends even you though you hate him
V: he's so uptight and with voight we are nonexistent when he's around and voights our boss but Jay acts like our boss
H: yeah because he's second in command and Also Jays never had it easy his life after his mom died became hell he hasn't been happy since then but when he is it's rare and something always ends up screwed up he has demons a bunch from war and from how his dad treated him affected him he has been through more than me only thing I went through was my dad and losing garret he has lost three people two died one left and who knows how many people in the army but only three that I am aware of
V: okk so he uses it as sympathy
H: no one knows but me and I only know because I had to pry it out of him or Will told me or voight told me
V: voight knows
H: yes he does
V: why does he know
H: because he's the father jay never had
V: okkkk still think he's uptight though

Hailey goes back out there and hugs jay she missed him she missed him more than she liked to admit she missed being in his arms and hearing his voice

H: welcome back
J: thanks
A: you have fun playing hooky
J: sure
K( Kevin): what'd you do while you were off
J: stuff
V: what stuff tell us
J: I had to help will then I had a few asthma attacks
V: you have asthma and so a few attacks so you had to stay out
J: yeah because my lungs aren't as healthy as y'alls I have been exposed to so many chemicals been around so many bombs ieds the air here is 40 percent cleaner than Afghanistan my lungs and immune system is weaker than y'all's so when I get pneumonia it's worse takes me 2 months to get over it while can In 1 month
K: damn I never knew that
J: no one really does my medical history is sealed only will and Ethan know it
A: why Ethan
J: because Meds rules family can't treat family and Ethan is a dr and in the navy so some medical treatments don't work on me because of all damage that's been done all the gunshot wounds or shrapnel from bombs and IEDS
KB: oh wow
J: yeah
SV: ok back to work
****** few minutes later

H: hey we need to talk
J: I know my place tonight
H: yeah
