*In which Morgan takes a liking to you*
"Finally, it's time to get some shut eye," Tony said as he climbed next to me in bed. I welcomed him in by opening the covers, allowing him to snuggle into me the way we did every night.
"Morgan's asleep?" I asked him, assuring that his daughter was okay before I could rest peacefully.
Tony and I were engaged and his daughter was soon to be mine. Morgan was as sweet as pie, but it still seemed like she saw me as yet another one of Tony's girlfriends rather than someone who would be in her life forever. I wanted nothing more than to form a bond with the daughter of the man I love.
"Yup," Tony answered, his arm reaching over to pull me closer to him. "She hit me with another 'I love you 3000' before she clonked out."
Tony's smile as he talked about Morgan was one of the many things I admired about him. It's like he beamed with happiness every time she was on his mind. It was truly adorable.
But I couldn't help but think about how I wished she would say that to me. Or not even those words, just a simple "I like you 300" would do.
"What's the frown for?" Tony asked, concern written all over his face.
"I don't think Morgan likes me much." I told him honestly. He looked at me with blatant shock.
"The kid loves you," he shook his head. "It just takes time for her to warm up to people."
Before I could say something back, I was interrupted by the door opening. In walked Morgan, a blanket and a teddy bear in each arm.
"I'm scared." Was all she said before running up to our bed and climbing in. Tony and I scooted away from each other to give Morgan space to get in the middle.
She hugged her teddy bear and looked forward, not saying anything.
"What are you scared of, Morgie?" Tony asked in a baby voice.
"I don't wanna sleep alone, daddy," she looked to me. "Can I sleep with you guys?"
I could see that Tony was about to protest before I stopped him. "Of course you can."
Tony gave me a dramatic incredulous look which I rolled my eyes at. Morgan got comfortable in our sheets as I ran my fingers through her hair in an attempt to soothe her. It wasn't long before she was out like a light.
"Y'know I really wanted to cuddle tonight," Tony whispered with an attitude. "Can't believe you let the kid come in between us. Literally!"
"She's scared, Tony," I spoke with an amused tone. "We'll let her sleep here tonight and we'll ask her why she's scared in the morning. I'm sure whatever it is, we can fix it."
Tony hated it when I was right. He dramatically turned over with a "hmph" sound. I silently giggled at how childish he was, while simultaneously going back to running my fingers through Morgan's hair.
I watched as she slept, so proud of myself for comforting her to sleep. I loved this girl as if she were my own daughter and I just wanted nothing more than for her to get everything her little heart desires. If that means Tony doesn't get to cuddle me for one night, I'm willing to take that risk.
I placed a light kiss against Morgan's temple and snuggled into the blankets to finally nod off to sleep. Just as I started to drift, I could feel Morgan shift closer to me until half of her body was resting on mine. I extended my arm to hold her in place.
"Told you she loves you." Tony said matter-of-factly.
And then Morgan said herself, "Yeah, I love you."
