In which you're his childhood best friend

I ran as fast I could, my lungs getting more and more tired, but the thrill of the chase keeping me going. Loki was fast but I was much faster, dodging and ducking at all the right moments. He'd always appear in front of me, but I knew it was just a trick to make me think he'd gotten in front of me somehow.

He was never able to fool me. I knew him too well.

"How do you never fall for this?" The illusion spoke as it ran next to me.

I ignored it and kept running to my destination. I was almost there, almost in my safe space. I reached the door ready to turn the handle when I was pulled back by my waist.

"Nooo!" I half screamed, half laughed.

"I finally caught you!" Loki exclaimed.

"I was almost there!"

Loki and I laughed together as he turned me around to face him. He and I were chest to chest, giggling like preschoolers. As we calmed down, I stared my best friend in the eyes, wishing to Odin that he'd see me the way I saw him. I could've sworn I saw him mirror my feelings up until we were interrupted by Queen Frigga.

"Can you two stop running around the palace like children? You're both in your 1050's. Act like it!"

Loki and I turned to her. His arm stayed around my waist and held me in place as I tried to subtly escape. Frigga eyed us once more and walked past us. We waited for her to turn the corner before resuming our previous shenanigans.

Loki pushed me back against the wall and held my hands above my head. His body pressed against mine, his face staring down at me. I giggled at his serious expression.

"Oh you think this is amusing?" He asked.

"Maybe a little." I challenged, a devious grin accompanied with my statement. He simply eyed me, blue eyes meeting y/e/c.

"Are we gonna stand here forever?" I asked. "Or can I go back to my room?"

Loki had chased me out of my room after accusing me of stealing his precious notebook. He had a special notebook that he never let anyone read. He's had it since we were children and I knew not to go near it. He'd somehow lost it and was accusing me of having taken it.

Of course I knew I didn't have it, but it was fun to mess with the prince sometimes. He was so gullible and fun to be around when he wasn't being callous. Which was rare for him. Even being his best friend, his attitude was only slightly better with me.

"You can go back once I've retrieved my possession." His voice rumbled.

He would be so sexy if he wasn't such a dick. Speaking of, I could feel something pressing into my lower thigh and I honestly doubt it was the tesseract. Nice to know he's well off in the nether regions. My attention was brought back to Loki when his voice got more aggressive.

"And now you're not listening to me?"

"I don't have your precious notebook, Smokey." I smirked at the nickname I'd given him when we were children.

"Call me that again and I swear to you I'll-" I cut him off mid sentence.

"You'll what, Smokey?" I teased.

I could basically see his blood boiling from the outside. Just when I thought he was getting angrier, he did the unexpected. He kissed me.

His lips landed on mine in less than second. I was shocked and it took me a while to register what was happening. As soon as I checked back into reality, I kissed him back. His hands let my wrists go and placed themselves on either of side of me.

This was what I'd wanted for so long. The feeling of him, of Loki, of his kiss, and his wanting. I grabbed the back of his head, pulling him even closer to me, our kiss turning more passionate by the second.

Just as I was getting hooked on him, he separated our lips. I stared at him, wanting him to come back in for another breathtaking kiss. He simply watched me, his swollen lips turned up into a smirk. I saw a glimmer of mischief in his eyes. He knew exactly where he had me and I'd instantly become scared that it was just another one of his tricks.

The realization dawned at me in that second and I pushed him off of me and stepped away. Why would I believe that a trickster like him would actually want me in that way?

"Where are you going?" He followed after me.

"Away from you." I spoke as I reached my door. My hand was on the knob again until Loki's hand pulled it away.

"Did you not enjoy our kiss?" He asked, concern written on his face.

"Why did you do that?" I asked, not looking at him. "Have you known all this time how I felt? Were you oblivious or did you simply not care?"

It was a few seconds before he answered. "Love, why do you think I came to you first after losing my journal?"

I looked back into his blue eyes not understanding what it is that his journal had to do with our kiss. I simply stared at him, waiting for him to answer for me. He stepped closer to me and looked down when he began speaking.

"I wrote about my undying love for you in that book," he sighed. "And I was scared of you reading it before I got the chance to tell you myself."

Loki's words hit me directly in the heart.

"And I know you probably don't trust a word that comes out of my mouth. And you have every right not to," he grabbed my hands. "But I swear to you this isn't a trick. What would I gain from making you believe I love you?"

His right hand found my cheek. "I love you, Y/n, more than anything."

"I love you too, Loki."
