BLACK PANTHER: WAKANDA FOREVER SPOILERS

In which you reconnect

"Don't you think that it would be a good idea to just speak to her, cousin?" My older cousin, Nuru spoke as I stared ahead.

"She's going through a lot," I shook my head. "Her brother just died. It would be wrong of me to push myself onto someone's who's mourning."

"Her brother died months ago." Nuru spoke crudely.

"Nuru!" I whisper yelled. "Jonga umlomo wakho!"

(Watch your mouth)

Nuru and I were currently attending a mourning ceremony for King T'Challa. In Wakanda, a few months after the death of a loved one we come together to dance and eat and celebrate their memory. I was only here as the guest of Nuru who's the daughter of M'Baku, the leader of the Jabari tribe. Being related to a tribe leader has its perks and this is definitely one of them.

I'd been encapsulated by Shuri in her traditional wear standing alone next to her mother who was chatting with a few members of the Dora Milaje. Shuri's new haircut looked good on her and there was a certain seriousness on her face that made her look intimidating. I'd always found the princess to be attractive and I exercised that thought a few weeks before her brother passed.

I asked for her number and she actually gave it to me. We texted flirtatiously for a while until she abruptly went ghost. I thought that maybe she wasn't interested but then I got news from uncle M'Baku that T'Challa was deathly ill. Everything made sense and I didn't want to overstep my boundaries so I left it alone and decided that she'd come to me when she was ready.

"Just go make conversation," she urged me. "You two were flirting hard before everything happened."

I shrugged. "I just feel like I should give her more time."

Nuru, finally fed up with my arguing grabbed my arm and led me over to Shuri who was still standing alone.

"Cousin!" I tried to fight her off subtly. "How do you even know she wants a romantic connection right now?"

She pulled me along, not caring about my protests.

"I don't." She looked back and smirked as soon as we were in front of Shuri.

The princess eyed us and gave a small smile, waiting for one of us to speak to her. My nervousness caused my mouth to stay glued shut. Our eyes met and it took everything in me not to look away from her.

"Princess," Nuru bowed her head to her. "How are you?"

Shuri smiled and nodded to the girl. "I'm doing good, Nuru. How have you been?"

I watched the two as they conversed, too shy to add myself to the conversation. They got their niceties out of the way, briefly catching up for a few minutes. When Shuri's eyes landed on me again, I froze.

"It's been a while, Y/n." Shuri had a small smile playing at her lucious lips.

"It has." I nodded, looking down at my feet, trying my hardest not to mirror her smile.

"I'll go see if my father needs any help over there." Nuru announced with a hand on my shoulder. She nodded to Princess Shuri once more and walked over to uncle M'Baku.
