In which you're not sure about becoming queen

I stood in front of my full body length mirror with a crown atop my head. I'd had one of the servants bring it to me so that I could see what I'd look like with it on.

In my opinion, I wasn't worthy enough of queen status. The only reason I even put up with this royal shit was for Thor, my fiance. My love for him was beyond my fear of letting an entire kingdom down. A kingdom that deserved more than just common old me.

I took the crown off and gently laid it on the dresser that sat beside the mirror. I even felt unfit to wear the clothes I was required to wear. I wore a fitted golden mermaid tail dress with a deep v-neck and a slit on my left leg exposing up to my upper thigh.

The dress was elegant and gorgeous, gold crystals decorated around the dress making it shimmer and shine. How could someone like me even dream of being worthy enough to dress like this?

"My queen," I heard Thor's voice and looked to see he had come into the room without me noticing. "My beautiful queen."

He wore the brightest smile on his face. I tried not to let my worry show by smiling and hoping it didn't turn into a grimace. He walked over to where I stood in front of the mirror.

"Well why haven't you put on your crown?" He asked. "It's tradition that the future queen of Asgard wear her crown even to simple gatherings like the one today."

Thor and I were hosting a party for the rulers of the nine realms to get to know Asgard's new queen. Gathering with the people that you've basically conquered doesn't seem like a very good idea, but I know Thor will protect me if anything goes wrong.

"Thor-" I said quietly, but he didn't hear me. He kept on about our future.

"I can't wait to marry you and rule beside you with you as my queen," I called his name again, but he still didn't hear me over his ramblings. "I know I keep saying the word queen, but I just can't believe that this is all happening."

"Thor," And still no response.

"Even Loki is excited to have a sister in law-" I finally decided to raise my voice.

"Thor!"

He stopped mid sentence and looked at me with concern in his eyes. I took a deep breath, not exactly sure how to let him know that I didn't share his excitement for the future.

He grabbed my arms and rubbed up and down comfortingly.

"What's the matter, Y/n?" He asked.

"I can't be your queen," I said as quickly as I could. I knew that if I took my time with my sentence, I would've fumbled over my words and dragged this out longer than it had to be.

"What?" The hurt was evident on his face and in his voice. "Why? Do you not love me anymore?"

I shook my head. "Thor, I love you more than anything in the world, but this is all so much. I can't be a queen. Don't you think a common midgardian is unworthy of the title of queen?"

"You think you're unworthy?" He asked.

I nodded in response. He didn't say anything. He walked over to the our open window and just stared, the hurt evident on his face.

I turned away from him, not able to watch him hurt and especially not over me. I waited for him to speak again, scared that he never would. Not to me at least.

I turned back around to say something, only to see Thor already behind me, mjolnir in hand. He grabbed my hand and laid the hammer on top of it.

"If I let this go and you're unworthy, it'll sink to ground, but if you are, it'll stay in your hand."

I shook my head. "Thor, won't it pull my hand down and crush it in the process?"

"I'll call for it before it can even reach the ground." I looked at the hammer in fear of how painful it'd be if Thor didn't catch it in time. "Do you trust me?"

I looked the man I love in the eyes and every single doubt I'd had before went away. There was no way that I was worthy enough to world Mjolnir, but maybe this would prove to Thor that I wasn't worthy enough to be his queen.

Everything I'd done up to that point was to make Thor happy. All I wanted was to see my soulmate with a smile on his face, but being his queen was on a different level. He deserved so much better than me.

"I'm going to let go now." He said, resulting in me closing my eyes.

In the next second I felt the warmth of his hand leave mine, expecting my hand to be jerked to the ground. I heard Thor gasp lightly and opened my eyes to see Mjolnir still in my hand.

I'm worthy?

"I told you, Y/n," Thor jumped in excitement. "I told you, you were worthy. I knew it, I goddamn knew it."

I gently laid the hammer on the ground and was immediately picked up off of my feet by Thor. He spun me around, chuckling and yelling, enthusiasm evident in his actions.

He finally put me down and just stared at me, the widest grin I'd ever seen on his face. His crystal blue eyes almost twinkling.

"Are you still doubting yourself?" He raised his eyebrows. "Or are you ready to be my queen?"

"Are you sure that I'll be a good enough queen to your people?" I asked.

"I know you will," he caressed my cheek when speaking in a softer tone. "Even Mjolnir thinks so."

I giggled, finally realizing just how worthy I was to be his queen. Thor had always had confidence in me. He always believed that I was fit for the throne. I should've believed him from the beginning.

"I'll be your queen then." I said with a newfound confidence.

"You've always been my queen," he smiled even wider. "It's just becoming official now."

He leaned down and his lips lightly brushed mine. I immediately smiled and wrapped my arms around his neck. He'd only let the kiss linger for a second before he broke away, my lips chasing after his.

"I love you." He said.

"I love you more."
