12. I don't need saving

We'll do it all
Everything
On our own
We don't need
Anything
Or anyone
If I lay here
If I just lay here
Would you lie with me and just forget the world?
I don't quite know
How to say
How I feel
Those three words
Are said too much
They're not enough
If I lay here
If I just lay here
Would you lie with me and just forget the world?
Forget what we're told
Before we get too old
Show me a garden that's bursting into life
Let's waste time
Chasing cars
Around our heads

Few days have past since Ellis was attacked in the car park. And all three of them have been trying to figure out a way to catch Anpu, but as for their luck they came up with nothing.

Meredith was walking into the hospital lost in her thoughts when Cristina approached her, "Hey!" She said startling Meredith a bit.
"Oh hey," she said looking back at Cristina.
"Okay what is up with you?" Cristina questioned her.
"There's nothing up with me."
"You can't lie to me Grey," Cristina walked in front of her, stopping her. "What is going on with you?" Her worried eyes met Meredith's who was desperate to tell her everything but couldn't. It would endanger her even more. Cristina realised she wouldn't talk to her out here in front of everyone. "On call room, now." Cristina had a tight grip around Meredith's wrists as she dragged her into the hospital, into an on call room.

"Cristina I don't know what you want me to tell you," Meredith refused to tell her anything.
"Meredith I'm your person. You don't have to hide anything from me. I would hide a dead body for you without questioning you. So what is going on in that small brain of yours." Meredith raised her eyebrows, "I don't have a small brain." She defended herself.
"Meredith," Cristina got serious.
"Ugh fine," she rolled her eyes finally giving in, "but if you tell anyone. You'll be dead in seconds." Meredith warned her. Cristina chuckled thinking she was just saying that to intimidate her. "I am not kidding Cristina. After I tell you this, you'll life be in danger if you even mention this to anyone."
Cristina's frown dropped. Meredith was very intense. "I, I swear," Cristina stuttered.

"Here it goes," Meredith took a huge gulp before telling her best friend her biggest secret of all time, "Before I started med school I was in Europe with some friends. As dumb collage students, we got drunk every night but one night I wasn't feeling it. I just quietly watched them getting drunk, sometimes smiled at them. Kind of like a loner. And that's when someone approached me, seeing a vulnerable girl who is left out of the group. As any scammer, he was all nice and inviting. I fell for his 'charms'. He comes up to me and says: 'How would you like to earn extra money?'. Keep in mind I was a collage student who was going to be totally broke after this trip. So I obviously agreed. At first I was just delivering stuff for him, such as packages and messages. But he has failed to mention that I'd be working for the Mafia and that once I'm in there's no way out." Cristina finally spoke her eyes wide opened, "Oh my god Meredith have you killed anyone?"
"Well not exactly" Meredith had an ashamed like on her face.
"Holy shit Meredith," Cristina had both of her hands interlocked behind her head.
"Keep you're voice down," Meredith shushed her.
"So what you are just living this double life?" Cristina wanted to know more.
"In a way. When I came back from Europe I decided to change my name. So the people who were after me didn't know who I was as I was trying fulfil my dreams of becoming a surgeon."
"So what is your real name?"
"Ellen," Meredith answered.
"Wait you're the cousin?"
"What?" Meredith was the confused one now.
"The piece of paper that I gave to you said 'Ellen' on it and you said it was for you cousin,"
"Oh yes, that was for me. See a month ago I was finally free from him, which he didn't like. So my mother's beating was a warning, a warning that they were coming for all the people that I loved. And that's why I've been acting all weird these past days," Meredith finished explaining.
Cristina tried to wrap her head around all this. She thought she knew everything about her, like Meredith knew everything about her. But everything she thought she knew just shifted. "Are they coming for me next?" Cristina asked.
"They might," Meredith answered in disappointment. "But Cristina, I am doing everything in my power to stop that from happening. I will not let you get hurt in any shape or form." Meredith placed her hands on her shoulders. Cristina all of a sudden felt so proud of her. She didn't care about anything that might happen to her nor did she mind Meredith's past. All she could think about how badass her best friend is. Doing two jobs at the same time is not easy to do, especially when one of those jobs is being an intern. She could hardly get through the days, imagine how Meredith felt on long days.
"I've never looked up to you more," Cristina said out of nowhere.
"What?" Meredith took a step back.
"Look at you. So badass. I know that's not the reaction one might expect but... I mean being an intern is not easy, but you are somehow still on the top of our class. Which just makes me wonder now. How? How do you not have mental breakdowns every second?" Meredith couldn't help but start laughing. Cristina was okay with it, she accepted the fact that her person lied to her about her past. "I have many breakdowns, trust me. It also comes with trust issues." Meredith added as a joke. They both just laughed when Derek came through the doors looking for Meredith, interrupting their moment. Not even bothering who's in there with her she just asked for Meredith. "Meredith come with me, now!" He commanded.
"What? What is it?" She was confused.
"No questions, just come."
