Clem's POV...
I woke up a few hours ago. I don't know how many, but... It was a few. Maybe I could tell if there were windows or some indication of what time of day it is. There are walls on all sides of me and a few dim lights. Not to mention the fact I can't really move. I feel so weak. And, I don't think I'm sick anymore. I don't remember what it feels like not to be; it's been so long.
Now I'm left here to wonder what's going on. I died. I know that for sure. I didn't pass out and get taken or something crazy. I died. So, where am I? This place has electricity, old hospital equipment I haven't seen actually working in years. Sure, we still had things like electricity, but it's different here. We would use it for lights, only sometimes, and very sparingly. Here, they have me hooked up to all kinds of machines; the lights in the room; the lady who's been here since I woke up, Emma, has been typing away on her computer and calling people on her phone. I think it's a phone. Maybe a walkie-talkie or something. No, it's a phone for sure. How does it even work?
I came to, and Emma was there. She introduced herself, told me I was ok and started checking up on me. I trusted her quickly. Knowing that I died, I thought maybe I was in an afterlife of some sort. I didn't think I was in any real danger. After a while of letting me adjust, she went into explaining some things.
Y/N, Brooklyn, and Violet are alive. Alive, for real. This is... The real world, which I don't really get. No one can come to see me right now because we are in lockdown or something. Y/N and Brooklyn are off doing some mission. That's why we're locked down. They're dealing with some terrorists or something, and if anything were to happen, they don't want people getting in here. That's also why Violet can't get in here to see me. If I could cry, I think I would. One: Y/N, and Brooklyn and Violet are alive. I couldn't be happier. But also, mourn everyone else. Marina, Aj, little Stanley... They're not real, from what I've been told. Again, I don't understand, but I'm sure I will one day. Emma isn't telling me everything, but I'm sure that's for my mental stability.
Emma: Yes. No. No, you need to tell him.
I can't turn my head to look at her. She's frustrated, has been for hours.
Emma: You have to tell him.
She's been trying to contact Y/N. It hasn't been working out.
Emma: No, listen to me- Hello?
She sighs.
Emma: They hung up.
Me: I-is ev-everyth-ing alright?
My voice is so weak. I couldn't speak at all a few hours ago. Now, I can slowly string words into a sentence.
Emma: I don't know. I couldn't get Y/N or Brooklyn to answer their phones. Not a surprise from Y/N. He never does. And then when I contacted... Well, I don't know who I contacted, someone involved in their mission, they've blown me off every time. They're refusing to tell him... I'm beginning to think this is another test.
She mumbles the last part.
Clem: Why?
Emma: I'm not sure. They may think it'll interfere with how he thinks during the mission or that maybe he'll abandon it. He can't. He has no way home right now.
Clem: Will he b-be al-r-r-right?
Emma: Yeah, I think so. He's good enough in a fight to survive... I'm sure you want to know more about what's going on over there.
I do. I don't say so. There is no point in me wasting energy to say it.
Emma: He and Brooklyn are in Russia, dealing with some terrorists who stole some important technology from the Russian government a few years back. It was the same machine that kept all of you in the other world; that's what the other three have called it.
Y/N, Brooklyn, and Violet are the other three.
Emma: This was a joint project between a few countries. They neglected to tell us that some of it had been stolen by terrorists. A year passed, and they finally told us. By then, it was too late to just pull you out, so we hoped that if they put someone in there, it wouldn't be an issue. A few years ago, out here, they started wreaking some havoc overseas. They bled into our country a few times for some quick hit and runs. We assume that whenever the person they put in got out, that's when they started doing more. Y/N and Brooklyn were repeatedly asked to help out, each time they rejected that request until about two days ago. They left a few hours before you woke up. Awful timing, really.
I hope they're going to be ok. I want to see them again.
Emma: They'll probably come back here after they get back. I'll have to run some checkups on them and make sure they're ok. They might get hurt as well, which is also a reason why they'll come here. Y/N is dead. In terms of records and such. Not sure about all the details, but he was lawfully considered dead.
What?
Emma: He killed someone, so we had to cover that up. The best way was for him to be dead. We have plenty of ways around that problem, so it'll be alright in the end for him. He doesn't know any of this yet. There wasn't much time to tell him.
He's alright, that's good. People just think he's dead.
Emma: Not sure how long it'll be, but the mission got extended, so it could be a while. They were supposed to be done by the end of the day, but they ran into some problems.
I wonder what happened. Maybe I'll ask when they get back.
Emma: None of them were harmed, though. So you don't need to worry about that.
I wasn't, really.
Emma: You've been up for a while. Try and get some sleep. If you can't. I'll give you some medicine to help. If something happens, I'll wake you up.
I've been asleep for years; if what she's told me is true, why do I need to sleep? Obviously, that's not how sleep works; you can only recharge yourself so much. I just kind of wish I didn't have to.
Emma: Tell me if you have any weird dreams that seem too real to be dreams.
I've had plenty of those, but I'm sure she means something else. Maybe I'll find out.
