Town

Everyone seems to be out on foot. There are a few cars around, most not being driven. The people must like walking everywhere. It's also the middle of the night. Why are they out? You examine every one you can. They do the same; you're outsiders... Not to mention your weapons.

Chaperone: Excuse me.

The person he approaches start speaking a language you don't understand, Russian, obviously, and shaking their head.

Chaperone: English. Someone speaks English in this town, right?

They walk off, still mumbling. You watch them. They keep glancing back at you.

You: This place is close to those guys, right Chaperone?

Chaperone: Yeah, that's why we're here. They'll know something.

You: They'll know them.

Chaperone: Yeah, which is why they're great to figure out exactly where they are, how many there are, who they are.

You: If you were watching me in the other world, then you would know that an aggressive community will threaten those around them and make them live in fear. These people either are the terrorists or are so scared of them that they're not going to talk because it'll get them tortured and killed.

Chaperone: They know more than anyone else.

You: Mike was talking about me taking risks. This is ten times bigger.

Brooklyn: Yeah, we're being watched.

Chaperone: Yeah, everyone is looking at us.

Brooklyn: No. Rooftops, down the street on the second story, inside the alleys.

Mike: How did you see that?

Brooklyn: I got his arm shot off because of a sniper, and I got killed because of a sniper. I'm watching every hidden area, every rooftop, everything in the distance.

She's trying extremely hard not to make the same mistakes she did inside the simulation. Both to protect you and herself. Losing your arm twice would be something... Painful too.

You move your left arm around a little and rub it. It's still weird having it. You could use it for a few years when you had your robot one, but you couldn't feel anything. Marina thought it was super cool when she was younger, which was an upside. You'd sit on the couch and let her play with it while you played with her hair.

Brooklyn: Not gonna happen.

You: Hm?

Brooklyn: You're not losing your arm.

You look back down at it and raise it up in front of you.

You: I was just thinking about how weird it is to have it. I didn't have it for like twelve or thirteen years. And then Marina loved it when she was younger. Thought it was the coolest thing in the world.

You smile.

Brooklyn: Well, you'll see her again soon.

You: Not like I remember. She's twenty-seven now. My little girl is all grown up... And I wasn't there.

Brooklyn: Quit it. She wouldn't have been there either if you hadn't done what you did.

You: I could have done something else that got us all out.

Brooklyn: I doubt it. They had you on the ropes.

Mike: How?

You: I was with my wife and child. The people after us crashed our car and cornered us in a school. Sixty people were waiting outside for me.
