No Clues

There were no leads on or around Ana's body. She was stabbed around thirty times, and since no one was around to spot who did it, you'd say someone kept her from screaming. That's all you have. The weapon used was taken with whoever did it.

Marina: Go away, Kenji.

She's losing person after person, and you feel like you're to blame. If you had just stayed in your world, this one would be fine. None of this would be happening.

Kenji: I want to help.

You stand up and turn toward Marina. Kenji is behind her, thinking about... Comforting her? You glare at him, and he stops.

You: I've got nothing, Marina. Whoever did this got away with it.

She bites her lip, staring at Ana.

Kenji: What do you want to do?

You: She said go away.

You don't know if he's trustworthy or not.

Kenji: I want to help. You can't stop me.

You: I could.

Marina: Kenji, go away.

Kenji: But-

Marina: Go away.

He hesitates but walks off regardless of what he's thinking.

Marina: I don't know what to do, Dad.

You: This is your community.

Marina: I know.

You look around, making sure no one is eavesdropping.

You: We're stuck in here right now. That wall isn't coming down any time soon. Unless we figure out who did this.

Marina: How do you know that?

You: I'm assuming whatever happened to Brooklyn happened to whoever did this. So, someone wants us to tear each other apart from within first. They're probably getting in people's heads and messing with them.

Marina: That's crazy.

You: But true. Brooklyn tried to kill me earlier, and she would have succeeded if I didn't have outside help.

Marina: So, it could be anyone.

You: I'd say they'll make themselves known, but I don't know.

Marina: Hm... You think they'll explode like Brooklyn?

You: It could affect people differently. We know nothing about whatever this is.

Marina: And what do we do with the people it has gotten to?

She knows the answer.

You: Kill them.

Marina: If you fixed Brooklyn, maybe you can-

You: Brooklyn is different.

Marina: Could you try?

You could ask, but your gut feeling is you can't help them.

You: Hold on.

You pause the world.

Emma: Y/N, quit pausing.

You ignore her, getting to the point.

You: Is there any way to help anyone else affected by this?

Emma: By what?

You: The virus or whatever you called it.

Emma: Oh. I'm not an expert, but I'd say no. Once it latches on, they're simply vessels for the virus.

You: So no way?

Emma: No way. Your best option would be to kill them.

You: Ok. Any progress on finding our way out?

Emma: No. I'll get in touch.

You: Thank you, Emma.

Emma: Stay safe.

The world starts without you tapping your watch. Marina looks at your hands.

Marina: You paused.

You: How do you know?

Marina: Well, your arms teleported.

You: Oh, yeah, that makes sense.

Marina: So, can we help them?

You shake your head.

You: I'm sorry. We'll have to kill them.

Marina: Damn it.

You: You're losing a lot. I want to apologize.

Marina: It's not your fault.

You: It is. If I had stayed out, this wouldn't be happening.

Marina: They may have just done it anyway.

You look up at the red sky.

You: They would have made it quicker if they had. You would have no clue... You would just disappear.

Marina: I always expected to die brutally and painfully, so whatever happens really isn't going to shock me. If I just disappear, good.

You: You shouldn't be dying any time soon.

Marina: I'm living on time I shouldn't have. I shouldn't be alive.

You: Quit. We're going to find a way to stop this.

Marina: So you were arguing with Brooklyn...

She puts her hands in her pockets, looks to the ground, and kicks a rock.

Marina: It didn't happen to be about you staying, did it? Because we've already had this discussion.

You: We have?

Marina: Yes. I said I was going to help you get out.

She's on Brooklyn's side... That doesn't help.

You: I can't leave you here.

Marina: You don't have a choice.

You: I can stay until the place is wiped.

Marina: Won't let you.

She shakes her head.

Marina: You've got to talk to Mom still and be there for her for the next year.

You: I don't think she wants to talk to me.

Marina: Don't be stupid.

You: She already knows about Brooklyn and me. Pretty sure she found out when you walked in on us.

Marina: Ok. So?

You: She doesn't want to talk to me.

Marina: Idiot. Yes, she does.

She turns around.

Marina: I'm not letting you stay. No matter what you say.

She starts walking.

Marina: Now, come. We're going to your house.
