"So, have you decided what course you'll take for your bachelor's degree?" My father asked me while we're having dinner.
I wiped the sides of my mouth with a tissue because I spilled some of the gravy on it.
"Yes, Dad. I'll take Political Science."
My father looked amused and satisfied with my answer.
"Bakit? Balak mo rin bang subukan ang politika?" He asked merrily.
My mother looked at me and smiled. She loves it whenever my father feels satisfied and happy with our decisions in life.
"I don't really want to enter politics, Dad." I honestly said. "Gusto kong maging abogado."
He still looked pleased with my answer. It doesn't really matter to me if he'll agree on this or not. This should be my own decision, not his.
I don't get it whenever parents will decide on what path their children should take.
Kasi may ibang nagdikta.
Always keep in mind that when it comes to your own life, you should always have the final say.
You are living to satisfy and impress yourself. Not the other people around you.
"Oh. I thought that I will have my son as the next Mayor of this town once I retire."
"Sorry, Dad. Politics is too dirty for my liking."
My father smiled genuinely.
"You don't have to be sorry, Nathan. That's your life you're living. Your decisions would always matter." He said and by that, I smiled.
I am just really lucky that I was born in an understanding and supportive family.
My father is the Mayor of our hometown and my mother is one of the councilors.
They were both leading our town and so far, they weren't making any mistakes, especially, my Dad.
He is a great leader.
I looked up to him in some ways because he's that honorable father every family was craving for.
I pursued my dream course in a state university, just within my hometown, though, my father suggested that I should study in a prestigious university in Manila.
But I love my town so much, I couldn't leave it.
So what I did is that I enrolled myself in that state university. It's not that big deal for me since my friends are also going to pursue their dream courses there.
"Yow, dude! Have you seen any college girl that's worthy of my interest?" One of my friends, Dean, asked me while I was busy reading a book in Modern Political Theories.
He just popped up in here like a freaking mushroom. I was sitting alone in one of the benches in the university.
