Ryan went to Disney Castle first, to see if the King or Queen knew anything about where Rachel had gone.
According to them, she had stopped by the castle and delivered a letter, only to leave right after. While that wasn't nearly enough to ease his worries, it was an essential clue as to where she might have gone.
Someone tapped him on the shoulder as Ryan made his way outside. He turned, and saw a humanoid dog, like Goofy, but he looked younger. The stranger laughed nervously.
"Hey," said the dog, "I'm-- I'm Max. My dad is captain of the royal guard. I want to be strong like him. Do you... Do you think I could go with you? You've probably been on tons of adventures, huh? Like some kind of hero." He rambled.
"I'm... not a hero. But you can come if your dad says it's okay."
He had no right to bear the title of "hero". Ryan had failed so many times, he wasn't sure he would even be able to bring Rachel back home.
But he kept these thoughts to himself.
The pair went over and asked Goofy, who seemed pleased with the idea that his son was going on his first adventure.
And so, the duo headed off.
~three days later~
Riku sat curled up on his bed, hugging a rabbit plush to his chest-- something from Rachel's parents. Apparently it had been Rachel's since she was three years old.
Despite his hesitation, it did bring a little bit of comfort. He pulled the ice blue seashell out of his pocket, then got up out of bed and went outside to think.
"Why would she go search for Maleficent? What does she want?"
A tear slid down his cheek, maybe from overthinking.
Maybe just from guilt. He didn't know anymore.
"I'm sorry I can't do anything to help. But... you could've at least told me what was wrong." He sighed.
Just then a beagle walked over and climbed onto the boy's lap. Riku scratched Copper's chin, smiling sadly.
"You miss her too, huh?" Smile fading now, he shed another tear. Copper yipped and licked his cheek to remove the single drop of water.
"Thanks..."
Rachel wandered through a quiet world she knew nothing about. She had to find Maleficent and get everyone's lost memories back.
But then sound in the distance caught her attention.
A faint screaming that went on without end, until a young rooster dropped from the sky and landed in her arms.
"You okay?" she asked him.
"Yeah. I'm fine. Thanks. My name's Chicken Little. Who are you?"
"I'm Rachel. What happened? How'd you get here?"
"I got blasted out of the sky by this weird lady with green skin." He explained.
Green skin? Hey, that sounds like...
Heartless interrupted her thoughts. Rachel placed Chicken Little behind her and summoned Silver Hero.
"Stay back." She murmured.
"No way!" Chicken Little exclaimed, "You can't take 'em all on your own!"
"All right. Fine," said Rachel, "let's see what you can do."
