Ryan gasped.
"No... No, no, please, no!"
Shira hurried over to him, "What's wrong?"
"No, come back, please! Don't... Don't leave me behind!" Ryan thrashed against his restraints. All it did was cause further injury.
Shira finally brought him back from wherever he'd just been. To her surprise, he started crying. "They're gone... I-- I can feel it... Rachel and Riku have already left... We're-- We're trapped-- they're not coming."
"...I can't take it anymore. I'm getting you out before she can even see anything." Shira hastily untied him. Ryan dropped onto his knees.
"Hey, are you sure you're not coming down with something?"
He coughed, "I'm fine. Don't worry about that. I... I think I'm starting to remember why she brought me here. I was so exhausted that I'd forgotten... She wants to control me... She's waiting for Rachel and Riku to find me, so I can... She... wants me to attack them. With the way I am now, I'd never be able to fight back against her! If that happens, promise me--"
"No." Shira shook her head. There was fear in Ryan's eyes-- she could tell all he really wanted was to get it over with. "Ryan, I don't want to hurt you again."
"Please, just do what it takes to keep them out of harm's way. Even if..."
She could tell he was desperate. Shira placed her palms over his.
"I... I promise."
