Ryan got up early the next morning. He ate breakfast, chatted with Max a bit, and then kept going. He put a hand to the patch underneath his eye-- the pain had eased up significantly.

His blood ran cold.

"HEY!!!" A voice called.

He turned around.

There stood Shira, walking towards them like an animal after its prey.

"How did you--"

"What, not happy to see me?" She asked, her voice as cold and bitter as the winter snow.

"That's not what I..."

"Give me that!" She snapped, snatching her map from his hand. "I thought you were different! I... never liked you to begin with, but-- Ugh, never mind."

"Huh?"

Though her lips concealed them, her eyes spoke a thousand words as she brushed past him, letting out a small sigh.

They walked on in silence. He feared speaking might make her, if possible, more angry than she already was.

"We're heading into a really dangerous area. Be careful." Shira said flatly, not turning to look at them.

She was right-- This new flat, grassy terrain was filled with Heartless. They would have to fight their way through. One of them charged towards the young woman, but she simply pulled back and punched it as hard as possible, and it vanished.

The trio fought through the endless stream of monsters until they reached a lush green forest.

"More!?" Ryan complained as Crimson Jazz Heartless appeared. He and Max fended them off as best as they could.

Max rammed at them with his shield, then tossed a potion over to Ryan.

Then the only remaining Crimson Jazz set the trees on fire, and it spread quickly. The two boys ran, but unintentionally, they'd left Shira behind again. She struggled to catch up to them as the fire continued to spread.

Smoke filled her lungs, and she coughed, pushing forward. The creature pursued her, but she picked up a fallen tree branch and whacked the monster.

"Frick... Gotta get out of here."

She fled, but the smoke and the burns weakened her and slowed her down.

And as the world grew dim, Shira felt her body collapse into the grass.

Her consciousness was swallowed by the dark.

The boys stopped running once they made it out, but something wasn't right.

"Did she not make it out?" asked Max.

"She got left behind again!? I have to help her."

"But what if--"

He didn't have time to finish speaking, as his friend dashed back into the flames.
