Ven went outside to the training grounds one early evening and found his friend tending to the flowers around Master's Defender.
"The flowers were wilting," Ravenna explained without turning to look at Ven. "I thought I'd try to help them. The person you set this up for... Who were they?"
"Master Eraqus. He trained us for a long time, but eventually, someone... He was..."
Ravenna pulled her friend into a hug. He started crying and buried his face in her shoulder. She did her best to comfort him.
Ven stepped back after a minute, wiping his eyes and muttering a quiet apology.
"I'm sorry if it was too personal. I just--"
"Ravenna, Ven! Dinner's ready!" Aqua called
"Ventus, I'm really sorry."
Ven shook his head, "It's not your fault. What happened then was... Never mind. So, I've told you to call me Ven. Hehe, but you don't seem to fond of the idea. Why is that?"
Ravenna responded, "I like the way Ventus sounds. It's... pretty."
"Huh?!" He was taken aback. Something new stirred in his heart, but he ignored it. "Y-you think my name is pretty?"
"Mhm."
She went inside, but Ven lingered a moment longer. He thought about changing the 'call me Ven' rule, but maybe it just sounded nice when Ravenna called him Ventus.
Ravenna couldn't sleep that night. Nightmares woke her up every hour. People she didn't recognize, places she'd never seen.
"Just dreams, nothing more." she told herself, "I belong here. I'm not going anywhere. These aren't... memories. They're dreams."
"You okay?"
"Aah!!! Oh-- V-Ventus, what are you doing up?"
Ven inclined his head, "It's morning," he told her, "Aqua made breakfast."
Ravenna took a slow, shaky breath to calm herself down. She got up out of bed and tried to push the images from her mind.
"Ventus? Can I hold your hand?"
He nodded. The two of them walked off to breakfast together.
Though neither of them saw it, a strong bond was beginning to form between the two of them.
Ravenna smiled a little. She quite liked the way Ventus' hand fit in her own.
She was happy. She was safe.
She was home.
