(A/N: This one's reaaally not great, because I had zero motivation to write this stupid chapter and I'm just getting tired of it)
When he woke up the next morning, light was peeking out of the cave entrance. A voice was calling his name.
"What...? Did I fall asleep? Was I here... all night?"
"Ryan, where are you!?"
"Huh? Max?" He went outside and found Max standing there.
"You're a sight for sore eyes." said Ryan.
"You okay? You don't look so good." Max looked worried.
"Yeah..." Ryan muttered, "I just... had a rough night. I-I'm fine. Really. Oh, you mean-- right..."
He suddenly remembered that he was still covered head-to-toe in mud, and went over to a river to clean himself up.
Riku slowly got up and looked around. There was no one in sight.
"...Agh--! He's... gotten really tough..." He muttered, then followed the path Ryan had taken.
Terra landed in the Unknown World moments later. He spotted someone in the distance.
It was his successor.
He went over to Riku, and asked, "What are you doing here?"
"I'm... trying to find... Ryan..." He spoke between each heavy pant, his shoulders slumped and his body covered with injuries.
"Are you okay?"
"I'm fine." He mumbled, then fell into Terra's arms. The man knelt, seeing Riku's knees wobble, and then give out. He gently laid him in the grass.
"Tell me what happened."
"I..." Riku seemed to hesitate.
"...I fought Maleficent. R-Rachel lost her heart, and I got mad. Ryan tried to stop me, but..."
"I understand. Get some rest."
Then he closed his eyes, and his body relaxed a bit as he fell into a deep sleep.
"...Hang in there, kid."
Ryan and Max continued forward, taking in their surroundings. A large shadow loomed overhead. It was a dragon.
She landed in front of them and morphed back into a young woman.
"Here." Shira said, handing him the treasure that had been stolen the night before, "I... found this. You've gotta stop losing it."
"Thank you."
Max wandered off to give the two of them some time alone.
"Shira, I never had a chance to thank you. For... not letting me die back there. At the castle. And I'm sorry for what we had to do to it."
"What do you mean?"
"Wasn't that your home?"
"Pfft, more like my prison." She grumbled, and then sighed. "I'll find a place to stay... eventually. Anyway, I needed to tell you something. About... her. She might still be after you, so watch your back, okay? Also, I know you probably still hate me, but--"
"Look," Ryan interrupted, "I don't know how I feel right now. I... need time to think."
Something in her expression changed. A look he hadn't seen since he'd first met her. "...Right," She said coldly. "I know what it means when someone says they'll 'think about it'."
"No, that's not what I..."
Shira brushed past him, "I get it. And I... really don't blame you. Goodbye, Ryan."
"No. Wait!" He shouted, but she reverted back to her true form and took off into the sky.
"How... do I feel about her?"
