He wandered through a dark abyss, sinking deeper and deeper.
Farther and farther.
Away from his sister-- and all his friends and everything he cared about.
But for some reason, no matter how hard he tried... he couldn't stop walking towards it-- the darkness calling to him.
Closer and closer, until...
He gasped and opened his eyes.
Ryan sat up, shaking himself awake. "What was...?"
"Everything alright?" Max asked. He was packing everything up, preparing to set off.
Ryan nodded. "Weird dreams," he said quietly.
"We'd better get going--" said Max, "if you want to catch up with your sister, that is."
"Y...Yeah."
They walked in silence for a while.
Though he was no longer asleep, the dream continued to haunt him. What if he gave in one day? What if he hurt them?
"Want to talk about that weird dream you mentioned before? You don't look so good."
Ryan told him everything, and felt a little relieved at having someone to talk to.
"Don't worry. I know you're strong enough to fight it."
But... what if I'm not? What will happen if I succumb to the darkness?
...Will I turn into a Heartless?
He shoved the thought away as the strange duo reached a small town. They asked if anyone saw Rachel recently. Receiving no answers, they moved on.
"Do you think your sister will be all right on her own?"
"Yes. She's strong. I just want to see her again, so we can both go home together. I don't even know why she left in the first place."
A figure in the distance caught their attention, but out of nowhere, Heartless appeared.
"You ready?" Ryan asked, summoning Heart's Allegiance.
"Yeah!" Max brought up his shield. With that, they charged into battle.
Max rammed them with his shield, and Ryan brought the Keyblade down on them, gaining new strength, and learning new abilities with each batch they fought.
He turned back towards where he'd caught a glimpse of someone...
But the figure was now nowhere to be seen.
The next world had lush green fields and forests, and it was bright and sunny that day.
"Maybe she's here..." Ryan murmured.
"Hey, look!" Max pointed towards the sky, where a blue dragon was flying overhead.
It was another Heartless, Ryan realized as it landed, seeing the emblem on its chest.
And so they charged into battle once more.
