They set out the next morning. Riku was still asleep, so Terra carried him. They didn't know of any place they could stay, but there was no harm in searching.
"Hey, Rachel?" Ryan called out, "When I was being controlled back there and I... y'know, attacked you... Why didn't you leave?"
Rachel looked hurt by the question. "Ryan, you of all people should know that's not how I was raised."
Ryan's mind drifted elsewhere.
Maleficent... She took control of me. Of my emotions. Something isn't right.
What does she want from me?
She looks so satisfied every time we fight. It's like she's studying me. Studying that dark flame that never stops growing.
I have to put it out. I have to change somehow...!
He looked over at Riku, still asleep in Terra's arms. I want to be a better person. I don't want this to happen ever again.
Thus began Ryan's new journey.
It was one of self-improvement. I'm going to succeed. I won't lose this fight. A fight against who I am as a person.
I'll learn to trust you-- I won't give in to whatever Maleficent is planning.
I promise.
