Ryan sighed and pulled out what looked like a part of a baby's mobile-- it was shaped like a crown.
"What's that?" Shira asked.
"Just... something I carry with me. Eleven years ago, my parents disappeared, so I had to take care of Rachel. When we moved, eleven years later, we sold everything. Well... almost everything." He had a distant, nostalgic look in his eyes.
"The crown?"
"Rachel kept a few personal things and... when I was going through boxes, I found the mobile that used to hang over my crib when I was a baby. I decided not to take the whole thing and took this off of it. Because..."
He hesitated. This next part was a bit embarrassing.
"Because I remember that, when I was a kid, they used to call me they're 'little king'. So I've always carried around it with me. Whenever I'm feeling down. I just pull it out-- it makes me think of my parents. Almost like they're here right now... holding my hand through all the stressful crap I'm going through."
"Ryan..."
Silence hung over them as Ryan tried to figure out what to say next. Then Max walked over to the bridge they were standing on, carrying a bag filled with potions.
"You guys ready to head back to the hotel?" He asked.
"Hey!" Ryan called. "Glad you came. Things were about to get super awkward and you are a lifesaver."
Max laughed, sounding almost identical to Goofy. "Let's get some sleep."
"Yeah." The young man agreed.
He turned back towards the girl, smiling a bit.
Then before he could stop himself, Ryan gently kissed her forehead. Shira blinked in surprise.
"I'm glad we talked." He murmured.
Then they headed back and went to sleep.
Shira's dreams that night were the most pleasant she'd ever had.
~The next morning~
He stretched as he sat up, and got dressed for the day. It was raining, but they had to go anyway.
They continued their journey in silence.
Finally, they arrived.
Shira didn't say a word as she stopped at the doors and knocked.
They opened, and she seemed to hesitate.
"What is it?" asked Max.
"Oh it's... nothing," She replied, "Best that you stay out here. C'mon, Ryan."
Ryan followed her inside and looked around.
"So... Where's the wizard?" He asked. The girl stared down at her feet.
"He... He doesn't exist." She mumbled.
"Huh?"
Shira stepped forward and turned her gaze towards the ceiling.
"Maleficent... I brought him."
