Chapter 26

Jay just received news that will completely change his life. He doesn't know how long he's going to be gone or where he's going. He still has to tell Erin as well as the team.

Erin: you ready to go to work?
Jay: umm umm Erin we gotta talk?
Erin: Jay what's wrong?
Jay: The Rangers just called.
Erin: what did they want?
Jay: umm I've been called back to active duty.
Erin: What 😮, I thought your contract was up.
Jay: I thought so to, I have to report in a week.
Erin: you have to tell Hank and the team and Bella.
Jay: I know, let's get bring the kids to Cindy's  and then we can go tell them.
Erin: okay I will get the kids dressed.

After getting the kids dressed, they headed out. They dropped the kids off first, and then they headed to the district. They walked into the district and right when Trudy was about to start with a joke, Erin shook her head telling Trudy not to. They both went straight upstairs, and walk right into Hanks office. He informed Hank of the situation.

Hank: Just know your spot will still be here when you return.
Jay: Thank you, I just have 1 request, please take care of Erin and the kids. I know she's going to be really worried the entire time, and I don't want her backsliding.
Hank: You got my word, we will all take care of Erin and the kids, you just make sure you come back in 1 piece.
Jay: That's the goal, let me go inform the team.
Hank: I'm proud of Jay.
Jay: Thanks Hank!

Jay: okay, so I have an announcement to make. This morning the rangers called, I have to report to base in a week. I don't know how long it will be this time, so the only thing I ask is that you help Erin out as much as possible.
Adam: We always got your back, you just focus on getting back.
Antonio: we'll make sure they are good.
Kevin: You know we love the Halstead family, just be careful.
Jay: Thank you all, I really love all of you.

A week later

A week rolled around really quickly, before jay knew it was time for him to leave.

Erin: 🥺😭 I love you❤️
Jay: Er please don't cry 🥺, cause if you cry I will too.
Erin: we love you, and we're so proud of you.
Bella: love you daddy❤️
Jay: I love you to princess ❤️
Maverick: mhmmm mhmm
Jay: I love you to buddy❤️
Erin: Please be safe, I love you, and try to make it back to me.
Jay: I will make it back to, I love you so much❤️

Jay gave everyone a hug, and the last person he was hugging was Will. Will wasn't there the first 2 times, but that didn't matter anymore cause he was here now.

Jay: Will I'm trusting you with my family, please take good care of them. I know they got hank and the team, but I want my brother looking out for them.
Will: I will be there for them, you have my word.

The hugged once more, and jay hugged Erin and the kids one more time before heading into the airport. Erin knew this was gonna be hard, so she leaned on her family to help her through this.

A few days later jay called and informed that his contract was a year long, but once he finished he was completely done. No more going back, he would be free.

8 months later....

Jay had missed missed Mavericks first Birthday, but the team and the rest of the family made it quite special. Today Erin doesn't know that jay got a few days off so he flew in to surprise her. He got the one person he never thought to ask to surprise Erin.

Hank: alright guys we got paperwork to do, and no cases yet.
Adam: We might have a Quiet day!
Erin: Did you just really jinx us?
Antonio: I think he did!

Platt comes running up stairs, fully out of breath.

Platt: Hostage situation at molly, hermann asked for intelligence to take the case. He said the suspect was demanding to speak to Erin.
Hank: over my dead body, vest up everyone we roll out in 5 minutes.
