Chapter 27

Over the next week Erin walked around the district like a ghost, she wasn't really functioning. The rangers had asked her to plan the funeral so they knew where to bring the body, but she was so hollowed out that she couldn't. Will had stepped in and helped her finish the funeral plans. Since Will did everything, the only things Erin had to do was sign her name. Everyone knew this was gonna take a huge toll on her, so everyone stepped in where they could. Kim would spend most nights at Erin and Jay's place, or Will would take the kids during the day, or when Erin just needed support they would all come to her house and comfort her.

Today was the funeral 😔, Erin had just gotten up and walked in Justin's old room where Bella slept at. She couldn't stand being in a house That she once shared with her husband, so she recently left to stay with Hank. She woke Bella up before heading down stairs, where Hank was making breakfast and playing with maverick.

Hank: How you holding up kiddo?
Erin: I'm not, I thought I would have forever with him.
Hank: I understand, I know what it feels like to have the have the love of your life ripped away from you.
Erin: 🥺🥺 it's to much Hank, we had so much planned😭.
Hank: you will do everything you planned, and Jay will always be with you in spirit. Now come on eat your breakfast, so we can go. I'll grab Bella, finish feeding mav.

After breakfast Erin dressed the kids then herself, she felt bad because she hasn't told Bella yet, she would miss him more than Maverick would. She's almost 5 and she remembers him very well, and she ask all the time when he's coming home.

Hank: You ready kiddo.
Erin: As ready as I'll ever be, can you grab Bella and put her in the car.
Hank: Yea, come on Bella.
Bella: Where are we going?
Erin: We're umm, umm we're going to a funeral.
Bella: what's a funeral?
Erin: it's where we go to say goodbye to someone.
Bella: who are we saying goodbye to?
Erin: 🥺😭daddy, we're saying goodbye to daddy.
Bella: but..but.. daddy said he was coming home.
Erin: I know baby, but daddy got hurt really bad.
Bella: uncle Will can fix him!🥺
Erin: 🥺😭 not this time munchkin.

Just like Erin, Bella couldn't process the fact that her dad wasn't coming back home. They made their way to the church that was hosting the funeral service, It was the old Halstead family church. Erin, Will and the kids sat on the first pew, while intelligence sat on the second row and the rest of Jay's family  and friends scattered around the church.

The service has started. The procession was first, then the scripture was given by fireman Christopher Hermann. The choir stood up and prepared themselves to sing the first song, which was eye of the storm by Ryan Stevenson. After the first song it was now time for family and friends to give their remarks.

Kevin: Jay Halstead, he was one of the first to really accept me and show me the way in intelligence. Even when I worked in patrol, he always gave me some encouraging words. The  way jay was with his family, was amazing. He kept a genuine smile on his face when he spoke about his wife and kids. I'm really gonna miss his friendship and brotherhood. Love ya playa.❤️

Kim: Jay was amazing, he was selfless always looking out for everyone. You all know Erin is like my sister, but over the years Jay became my brother. He had my back, he picked me up when I was at my lowest. I'll never forget how jay Halstead helped me become a better person and detective.❤️

Adam: Jay...Jay, all the different stories I could tell about him, I use to call him Mr. Perfect. He told never call me perfect cause we're all flawed. I remember one of my first cases I worked in intelligence, I had walked out the bullpen and I was complaining. Jay walked up to me and said you've only been here a hot minute, you don't get to complain. He taught me that sometimes I just need to shut up!😂 I'm really gonna miss you buddy. ❤️
